Safe Horizon Senior Staff Accountant, Manhattan New York
Summary: The Senior Staff Accountant is responsible for the maintenance of complete and accurate accounting records for the grants assigned.
Responsibilities:
- Conducts and oversees monthly budget review to effectively manage the financial activities of each grant to ensure compliance with funder and agency guidelines.
- Prepares budget analysis and projections for cost-based grants and coordinates with programs to meet objectives for performance-based grants.
- Ensures that the budget module is up to date and accurate.
- Responsible for the preparation and/or review of financial reports for submission to funding sources.
- Prepares budget proposals, modifications, and renewal budgets.
- Establishes audit schedule and coordinates funder audits.
- Prepares a plan for corrective action, as needed.
- Maintains complete and accurate grant files and ensures the financial system has the most up-to-date information.
- Processes requests for advances on new contracts and follows up on payments not received.
- Reconciles receivables and income earned from public and private sources.
- Prepares and processes salary and OTPs allocation changes.
- Trains program staff on proper coding of expenditures and ensures proper coding of expenses.
- Reconciles and closes grants on a timely basis.
- Prepares cash flow projections of service income.
- Prepares cost analysis and projections for development fundraising activities.
- Responsible for timely transfer of expenditures between funds, cost allocations, and other schedules.
- Attends trainings to stay informed of any changes in funders’ requirements.
- Assists in training and orientation for new Staff Accountants.
- Provides support to Accounting Manager/Senior Director and backup to Staff Accountants within the team.
- Undertakes special projects as assigned.

Qualifications:
- A minimum of one to three years of accounting experience is required.
- At least one year of previous grant experience is preferred.
- Three years of accounting experience, preferably in the nonprofit environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field is required.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Strong oral and written communication skills are required.
- Advanced knowledge of Excel and Word is needed.
- The ability to work within strict time constraints and manage multiple tasks simultaneously is essential.

Minimum Salary: $62,000
Maximum Salary: $69,750
