The Senior Vice President is responsible for the oversight and development of the real estate and fund accounting teams. This position will be instrumental in the transformation and growth of our accounting processes and institutional platforms.
Responsibilities
- Building a highly motivated, high performing accounting team through day-to-day oversight, collaboration, training and mentoring.
- Plans and monitors appropriate staffing levels and utilization of labor, using staff and outsourcing as needed to transform accounting team to support the transformation and growth of the company.
- Continuous evaluation of accounting systems and processes to support cost and efficiency.
- Oversee the accounting and reporting requirements on fund investments including set up and accounting for complex multi-tier investment entities.
- Reviews monthly, quarterly and annual portfolio level consolidated financial statements and other client and/or partner reporting.
- Responsible for oversight of fund level reporting and coordination of client equity contributions and distributions.
- Ensures team members management fee calculations are in accordance with the current management agreements.
- Reviews and analyzes performance returns, advisor incentive fees, and acquisition/disposition fees on real estate investments.
- Sets up, analyzes, and reviews joint venture structures and underlying inquiries, subscriptions and redemptions terms and conditions.
- Sets up, analyzes and reviews interest rate, currency and credit swap calculations.
- Reviews periodic P&L calculations at the fund and investor levels. May assist with internal and external property and client transitions. Work with other teams in handling special requirements as defined by the management agreement.
- Administer audit and compliance matters for all Carter entities. Train teams and oversee progress of multiple concurrent financial audits.
- Facilitate and oversee the preparation and review of company federal tax returns and the accurate, timely filing of all tax forms.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting from an accredited college or university, as well as a Master’s Degree preferred.
Experience/Skills
- Strong leadership experience in managing a team of 15+ accountants required.
- Outstanding management and organizational skills; demonstrated ability to organize accounting operations, design and implement procedures, systems, and policies, lead a team, and maintain a high level of efficiency, accuracy, and timeliness.
- Real Estate Accounting experience managing institutional capital providers and operating in a fully integrated real estate management portfolio. Joint Ventures and consolidations exposure a plus.
- Multifamily real estate experience required.
- Tax exposure is a plus.
- Experience with complex, multi-tiered entity structures.
- 2-3 years of experience in Yardi Voyager and other Yardi products, or other comparable ERP systems.
- Strong Excel skills and adept at learning new accounting applications.
Certifications: CPA Required
