The Finance Department aims to be a trusted partner that adds value by protecting the company’s financial integrity, guiding sound business decisions and offering enriching careers in a collaborative workplace. Finance oversees financial planning and fiscal management for Chevron Phillips Chemical including accounting, financing activities, planning, and tax compliance. The department provides financial information, policy analyses and recommendations that drive sound decision-making.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and/or review state income and franchise tax returns, extensions, estimates, and related payment requests.
- Work closely with the Income Tax Supervisor to monitor state compliance deadlines, research state tax developments and ensure company compliance.
- Prepare, analyze, and reconcile state apportionment workpapers.
- Prepare monthly state tax accrual and quarterly deferred state tax accrual.
- Prepare and coordinate nonresident withholding consent forms with partners.
- Assist in state income and franchise tax audits.
- Monitor state tax account activity and perform monthly reconciliations.
- Establish and maintain relationships with key personnel to support the tax function.
- Support projects and other areas within the tax department, such as international tax, property tax, and/or transaction tax, as company needs dictate.
- Seek and implement opportunities to modernize and streamline tax processes in accordance with company initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance OR a Bachelor's degree (or higher) and eligible for CPA.
- Minimum 3 years of state and federal income tax experience at a public accounting firm or a large U.S. based multi-national company.
- Experience with SAP or similar ERP accounting system.
Preferred Qualifications
- 5 years of state and federal income tax compliance experience.
- CPA or CPA candidate.
- Experience preparing the Texas Franchise (Margin) Tax Return.
- Experience with CorpTax, Alteryx, Blackline, CCH, and/or Bloomberg software.
- Understanding of, and experience with, partnership taxation.
- Knowledge of tax accounting principles and experience with reporting book/tax differences.
- Strong reconciliation, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently with good communication skills.
