Position Overview:
Reporting to the Executive Vice President of Specialty Manufacturing Group, the Controller will be responsible for directing and overseeing all accounting and financial activities of the business including preparation of financial statements and reports, as well as financial forecasts, annual budgets, supporting financial analysis and collaboration initiatives for future business growth. Dotted-line reporting relationship to General Manager of Masterack.
Essential Functions
- Directs the preparation of all financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, etc., including reports for government regulatory agencies. Responsible for determining the appropriate entries for a number of key components including inventory changes, cost of sales, reserves, etc.
- Oversees accounting department, budget preparation and audit functions. Partners with leadership team to provide analysis.
- Prepares weekly projections of sales, EBIT and cash flow for corporate reporting. Reviews reports to analyze projections of sales and profit against actual figures, budgeted expenses against final totals, and suggests methods of improving the planning process as appropriate.
- Confer with staff members to set operating budgets - review special budget requests - present organizational budgets for approval.
- Responsible for developing, documenting, adhering to and enforcing proper processes and business controls for each area of responsibility to ensure sound operational performance, both financially and functionally. Take appropriate corrective action as necessary.
- Participate with sales and service/warranty groups to provide supporting analysis to establish pricing, discounting, and other controls that affect the sales process and organizational profitability.
- Conduct studies to accurately account for standard cost and manufacturing variances.
Qualifications
- Eight to ten years of experience in a financial role with at least five years in a management or controller role. Desired 3-5 years in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience within manufacturing, including strong cost accounting acumen and knowledge of standard costing and inventory procedures.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (MBA or Master’s Degree in Accounting or Finance a plus). CPA or other relevant professional certification strongly preferred.
- Strong communication skills (both written and verbal) are required. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents and respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to make effective and persuasive presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management within the business, as well as JB Poindexter & Company.
- Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and financial analysis and ability to calculate and analyze data related to capital expenditures including ROI, payback periods, etc., as well as performance metrics.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Knowledge of Accounting, Database, and Spreadsheet (Excel) software. Prior experience in implementing and using ERP systems in a manufacturing environment. Knowledge of JD Edwards ERP system a strong plus.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (MBA or Master’s Degree in Accounting or Finance a plus). CPA or other relevant professional certification strongly preferred.
