Job Description
Location: This position is remote/hybrid-eligible, provided the candidate resides within the following markets: Santa Fe, Denver, Las Vegas, Dallas, Houston, New York, or Los Angeles.
Compensation: The salary range for this position is $73,000 - $113,000. Compensation for candidates varies based upon location and experience.
The Senior Project Accountant is responsible for developing, monitoring, and analyzing budget and actual costs for new construction projects, including estimate refinements prepared internally and/or with outside estimating firms. This role will take the lead on providing financial support to the pre-operations efforts (including Marketing and Merchandising). As Senior Project Accountant, you will work with the Blue-Sky team, developing budgets and means for tracking costs on those efforts that have potential to become construction projects. You will assist with the implementation of the financial and cost management system (WORKDAY) for all projects, work closely with program management and purchasing organization, and review scope and payment terms for all contracts relating to the projects. This role reports to the Director, Project Finance, and together you will develop a comprehensive database from past projects to assist in the improvement of the accuracy of project budgeting on all projects.
Your efforts will bring value and quality to construction projects, ultimately elevating the Meow Wolf experience.
How You Will Do It…
- Accurate tracking of project commitments, cost to dates, and EFC trending.
- Create project cash flows and update monthly with assistance from the Project Team.
- Provide up to date cost-to-complete (Forecasting EFC’s) forecasts and identify and communicate spending risks.
- Work closely with project/program managers, estimators, and purchasing to ensure that all budgeting, scheduling, and coordination processes run smoothly.
- Make suggestions for improvements to project operations as needed.
- Continually monitor and evaluate each step of a project to ensure that it is meeting budgetary and deadline goals.
- Develop a recurring status report to stakeholders to discuss the progress of each project.
- Responsible for creating and maintaining reports addressing all aspects of project development and completion.
- Develop and manage the project budget estimates for TI, Retail, Bar/Café, front and back of house including ticketing and Exhibitions (show design, fabrication, and installation).
- Review continually evolving design documents and updates estimates at each stage of the design.
- Maintain all supporting project financial documentation.
- Develop conceptual Rough Order of Magnitude (ROM) estimates for projects prior to and in Blue Sky Phase.
- Create “value engineering” (VE) components with the project team to mitigate cost overruns.
- Compile overall project summaries on cost at the conclusion of the project.
- Develop and maintain a database of cost comparisons for various exhibition and non-exhibition facilities (BOH).
- Provide weekly and monthly project cost reports for the Director, Project Finance, PM and Executive Management.
- Support Director, Project Finance with project labor tracking through ERP Time Entry system.
To be successful in this role…
- Must have 3+ years of construction/theme park estimating experience.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft applications to create reports and present information.
- Capable of presenting cost estimates to upper management.
- Able to navigate and analyze large data sets.
- Maintain positive and informative relationships with vendors and contractors.
- Able to maintain and track separate project accounts.
- Review and process project invoices and contract payment applications.
- Review General Contractor payment applications.
- Able to influence decisions requiring a high degree of tact and diplomacy.
- Analytic and data-based decision-making skills.
- Strong collaboration and relationship-building skills.
- Must be able to multi-task and work with a diverse work group.
- Experience with project management software.
- Possess a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Construction Management, or related fields. Master’s degree preferred. CPA preferred.
Work Environment And Physical Demands
- This is a full-time position, and schedules are based on business needs.
- This position will not require supervisory responsibility.
- Minimum travel is required for this position.
- Working remotely may be an option.
