Job Summary
The Accounting Associate will play a critical role in supporting the financial operations of a construction company. This individual will be responsible for handling daily accounting tasks, including accounts payable and receivable, reconciling financial statements, preparing reports, and assisting in project budgeting and cost tracking. The ideal candidate has strong attention to detail, a solid understanding of accounting principles, and the ability to work in a fast-paced construction environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Accounts Payable (AP): Process vendor invoices, verify accuracy, ensure proper documentation, and prepare payments in accordance with the company's policies.
- Accounts Receivable (AR): Generate and send invoices to clients, track incoming payments, follow up on outstanding balances, and record revenue.
- Reconciliation: Assist in reconciling bank statements, credit card transactions, and other accounts to ensure accuracy.
- Project Accounting: Support the tracking of construction project costs, ensuring that expenses are recorded against the appropriate project budgets.
- Payroll Support: Assist in processing payroll by collecting, verifying, and recording employee timesheets and job costs.
- Financial Reporting: Help prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for management review, including balance sheets, income statements, and project performance analysis.
- Compliance: Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including tax filings, W-9s, and 1099 forms.
- Data Entry & Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records and support the digital filing system for all accounting-related documentation.
- Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, procurement, and other internal teams to ensure accurate financial tracking and reporting for construction projects.
- Auditing Support: Assist with internal and external audits by providing documentation and support as needed.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
- 2+ years of accounting experience, preferably in the construction industry.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, including GAAP.
- Experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, or Viewpoint.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Familiarity with construction project management software is a plus.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Working Conditions
- Primarily office-based with occasional visits to job sites.
- Typical hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with the potential for overtime during peak project periods.
