Shift Available: Full Time Nights (36 hours/week) 6:45p-6:45a
The Medicine Nephrology Unit consists of 22 beds. This unit is part of our new collaborative care model, where a grouping of ten patients is cared for by a team consisting of RN, LPN and a dedicated CTA. The unit is divided into two groupings or pods, to care for a medicine surgical patient population, with a focus of renal disease, acute dialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and all other medicine related diagnosis. There are also two dedicated comfort care/end of life suites, which are staffed with a dedicated concierge RN, providing care for the patient and family during the final stages of life. General Description:
Under general supervision, provides preventative and health care to an assigned group of patients or clients in the OU Health facility.
Essential Responsibilities:

- Will assist with the nursing assessment through data collection, observation, and obtainment of vital signs on assigned patients or clients.
- Provide care according to an established nursing plan.
- Observe changes in patient’s condition and notify supervisory personnel if significant changes occur.
- Provide routine ostomy care, nasogastric tube placement and feeding and placement and discontinuing of oral-gastric tube. Will initiate and monitor oxygen therapy according to physician orders or unit protocol.
- Will suction and clean tracheotomy sites.
- May administer oral, intravenous, intra-muscular, intra-dermal, subcutaneous, sub-lingual, vaginal, rectal and topical medications.
- Prepare patients for routine physical examinations and assist the physician during examinations.
- An LPN can function in the role of Surgical Tech if position open is in the operating room.
General Responsibilities:
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Completion of educational requirements for NCLEX-PN examination.
Experience: None required. One or more years of experience preferred.
Licensure/Certifications/Registrations Required: Current LPN License issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing, or a current multistate compact LPN License (eNLC). Current Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association required upon hire.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of professional nursing theories, practices, techniques, and procedures.
- Ability to organize, coordinate, plan and evaluate nursing needs of assigned patients.
- Must be knowledgeable about operating room techniques if applying for a surgery position.
- Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
