Amptek is a world leader in the design, development, manufacture, and sale of radiation detection components used in X-ray and gamma-ray detection. These are used primarily in X-ray spectroscopy, for analytical chemistry in laboratory and portable applications, and in nuclear and space research.
The Accounting Manager will report to the Amptek Controller and coordinates the daily general accounting functions. This individual is responsible for developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices, and procedures to ensure accurate and timely preparation of financial statements and business plans. The Accounting Manager will supervise the Senior Accountant and Staff Accountant and is responsible for managing the team to ensure work is properly allocated and completed in a timely and accurate manner, with future opportunities for supervision of additional personnel as the role evolves and develops. This position manages tight deadlines, competing priorities and a full range of accounting activities including general ledger, financial reporting, year-end and internal audit support, Sarbanes Oxley documentation and compliance, tax compliance, fixed assets and support of budget and forecast activities.
Responsibilities:
- Drive monthly financial close process, ensuring accurate financial results and requirements are complete within corporate timelines.
- Perform month end closing activities, including AP subledgers, journal entries, GL and intercompany reconciliations and applicable loading into Hyperion (HFM) and Finance SharePoint Portal.
- Coordinate collection of pertinent information required for Corporate reporting requirements supporting accounting, audit, tax and treasury functions.
- Analyze key general ledger accounts and provide commentary on month to month changes and variances to budget/forecast.
- Cross-functional management of Working Capital analysis (i.e. focus on A/P).
- Interface with outside advisers and auditors related to attestation and compliance matters.
- Evaluate accounting policies and procedural control systems and work to improve effectiveness and compliance. This includes monthly SOX testing and upkeep of required documentation in the Corporate SOX database, Internal Audit compliance and Internal and External Audits.
- Perform Fixed Asset and Demo reporting, including annual physical audit and review of spending requests for capital expenditures, research and development projects.
- 5th / 7th day reporting responsibilities including CapEx, PPE Rollforward, Intl Entitlement days and DPO.
- Assist in quarterly (MD&A) reporting process in understanding GL variances.
- Proactive driver of finance continuous improvement initiatives to improve accuracy and efficiency.
- Support DVP Finance and finance team as needed with other duties/projects and additional responsibilities as assigned.
This is a highly hands-on role with a focus on detail which requires the ability to work quickly and accurately on an independent basis, giving great attention to detail and displaying the initiative to quickly identify and resolve variances, failures and discrepancies.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA Preferred.
- 5 – 7 years’ of related accounting experience.
- Strong proficiency with office productivity applications (Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, Publisher, Word, Adobe).
- Experience with advanced ERP systems (preferably Dynamics 365 Business Central) and Hyperion Financial Management (HFM).
- Must be able to work independently and on multiple projects simultaneously.
- Superior organizational skills and attention to details.
- Work requires effective oral and written communications skills as well as a strong analytical acumen.
