The Staff Accountant performs simple to moderately complex accounting activities in accordance with accounting principles and standards to ensure compliance with regulations, laws, and reporting requirements. The Staff Accountant is responsible for reviewing the general ledger accounts and preparing adjusting entries as needed. This position supports month end and year end close activities as well as performing monthly account reconciliations. The position will research various outstanding items, handles inquiries, and information requests. The Staff Accountant will assist with gathering audit information. This position supports special projects as well as perform other related duties as assigned by the University of Dayton Research Institute.
Minimum Qualifications
- B.S. degree in Accounting or Finance and minimum of two years relevant work experience.
- Experience with the Microsoft Office Suite, and intermediate level experience with Microsoft Excel.
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
- Strong proven analytical problem-solving and excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality, accuracy and attention to detail.
- Excellent demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work well with others in a diverse organization while maintaining a position attitude.
- Due to requirements of our research contracts with the U.S. federal government, candidates for this position must be a U.S. Citizen
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Deltek Costpoint.
- Experience with Ellucian Banner ERP.
- Experience with reconciling large accounts and/or intercompany transactions.
- Exceptional time management with the ability to multi-task and remain motivated and positive.
- Professional manner with the ability to handle the sensitive and confidential data and information.
