EchoStar has an exciting job opportunity for an Accountant in our Hughes Network Systems division in Gaithersburg, MD. You will be part of the Hughes accounting team responsible for providing rapid and high-quality financial information to Senior Management, external and internal auditors, and internal financial analysts. This position will perform the day-to-day activities associated with our Accounting Department. We are seeking a motivated candidate who is well organized, detail and deadline oriented, ambitious, and ready to take on new challenges.
Responsibilities
- Assist in accounting for general transactions ledger transactions in Fixed Asset/Lease Accounting Group.
- Recording journal entries, reconciling accounts and auditing all system transactions and other U.S. reporting.
- Prepare additional complex, specialized balance sheet reconciliations.
- Prepare account analyses with month-to-month changes and year to year changes supported and explained.
- Prepare financial reports for Senior Management and Audit Committee.
- Financial liaison between several of accounting areas.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and make suggestions for improvement.
- Prepare and analyze reports, records, and financial data.
- Participate in special projects and ad hoc requests, as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
- 0-2 years of Advanced MS Excel skills to include knowledge of spreadsheets, mathematical calculations and formulas associated with the calculations, including VLOOKUP’s and pivot tables.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with SAP General Ledger and Project Accounting modules.
- Accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to excel within tight time constraints and rapid turnaround situations.
- Strong analytical ability, good organization skills and excellent time management skills while also being a self-starter.
- Continuously seeks opportunities to enhance knowledge as it relates to accounting and financial matters.
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written) – able to communicate and establish working relationships with other departments and personnel; capable of drafting and organizing substantial documents.
- Strives for excellent performance for the whole team through individual performance and helping others succeed.
- Strong at, experience with and enjoys challenging the status quo and improving processes and controls.
Will be eligible for discretionary bonus, with funding based on company performance.
