The role of Project Accountant offers an opportunity to make an important impact on our business by serving as a financial liaison working with clients, engineers, architects, contractors, subcontractors, and other internal and external clients. Project Accountants work closely with the Controller to originate and monitor projects budgets, facilitate billing, and perform cost and overall profitability analysis.
Your Opportunity
- Assist the Controller in the development and submission of standard project sales and cost proposals, client negotiations, and follow through until proposals are authorized or declined.
- Complete project setup to include contract, budget, not-to-exceed, and additional project services & change orders.
- Monitor and track projects & tasks to ensure timely completion, reconciliation, and closure of project tasks and phases.
- Work with third-party contractors and suppliers to ensure invoices are received and processed in a timely manner. Verify invoices are accurate and comply with agreed upon terms and pricing.
- Prepare and distribute project invoices, coversheets, and other account information in accordance with customer billing requirements.
- Review customer accounts receivable aging for accuracy and past due invoices. Contact customers for collection of invoices exceeding established payment terms.
- Process uncollectible receivables as directed by Controller/President.
- Review and analyze project transactions, work-in-process, and profit & loss statements. As appropriate, create, enter, and post expenses, fees, and hours journal adjustments.
- Review & report project budget variances. Identify factors and review with project team to create actionable information.
- Perform ongoing analysis of project & program performance. Prepare periodic reports for project team detailing and summarizing performance results; including revenue, gross margin, and other related data.
- Support month-end processing & closing.
- Maintain balance sheet account reconciliations.
- Prepare & submit sales/use tax to applicable jurisdictions.
- Support external financial audit.
Your Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance is required.
- Minimum 1-3 years accrual/cost accounting experience is required.
- Minimum 1-3 years project-based accounting experience is required.
- Experience with Architecture and/or Engineering firms is preferred.
- Experience in project-based Deltek Vision software preferred.
- Intermediate computer literacy, including Word, Excel, Access, and ERP software.
- Analytical orientation/attention to detail: ability to understand, interpret and manipulate data.
- Results driven and ability to work to varying schedules and deadlines.
- Strong written/verbal communication and presentation skills.
- Self-starter and resourceful.
