CODING COMPLIANCE AUDITOR

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Audits final coded accounts as requested on the Bill Scrubber report, to verify if a Modifier or additional information is needed to bill the accounts. Provides feedback to the Coding team.
- Codes hospital inpatient records and outpatient records (ED, surgeries & ancillary) according to diagnoses, operations & procedures using the appropriate ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and CPT classification systems for the purpose of reimbursement, indexing, research, and compliance with state and federal regulations and accreditation standards. Codes in a timely manner and meets the established department goal. Uses the Official Coding Guidelines to ensure coding accuracy.
- Analyzes hospital discharged patient charts for completeness according to standards established by the hospital Medical Staff, licensing and regulatory agencies; routes Coding Queries to the designated Provider when additional documentation is needed.
- Abstracts clinical and statistical data from discharge/encounter records, entering the data into the hospital record abstracting database.
- Collects and reports data for quality assessment/improvement activities through quality monitor screening, incomplete chart counts, and other activities.
- Completes annual education and provides training to the Coding team in a timely manner. Works closely with the JMH Medical Staff and researches coding questions as needed.
- Performs other duties as required.
- Conducts all activities in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, standards, and Johnson Memorial Health policies and procedures including Blood and Body Substance Precautions.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
High school graduate or equivalent required. Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), CPC, RMC, or other nationally recognized coding credentials required (or will obtain within one (1) year of hire date). Previous experience preferred.
SCHEDULE:
Monday through Friday; 7:30am-4:00pm
80 hours per two-week pay period.
