You will need to respond to the supplemental questions and attach a resume.This entry-level operational bureau accounting position will perform accounting-related functions that primarily involve transactional support in addition to some interpretation and analysis, applying Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) in the areas of accounts receivable, accounts payable, collections, and a variety of other regular, recurring and ongoing accounting and financial controls responsibilities. Work is performed using pre-defined guidelines and procedures and is subject to review by a higher-level accountant and/or analyst.
About the division/bureau:
The Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) Financial Controls division provides support to the bureau so that transportation services can be effectively and efficiently delivered to residents of Portland. Specifically, Financial Controls directs the purchasing of goods and services, oversees PBOT’s grants program, and facilitates bureau-wide compliance with the City’s accounting policies and procedures. We are looking for a highly skilled Accountant I to provide accounts payable, accounts receivable, collections, and other accounting-related tasks.
What you’ll get to do:
- Use accounting skills and financial knowledge of Bureau and City processes to advance a wide variety of finance and accounting special projects, including internal and external audits, GASB compliance, internal control implementation, AR, AP, and collections.
- Review, reconcile, and research financial transactions.
- Carry out a number of accounting functions; reconcile and make adjusting entries and end-of-period adjustments to specific accounts.
- Work with initiative and independence while exercising professional judgment and strong communication skills.
