Under the supervision of the Insurance Verification Supervisor, the Financial Counselor is responsible for the daily review, contract interpretation, precert/authorization compliance, and upfront collection for all in-house accounts. The Financial Counselor is an active participant in facility Net revenue and/or Discharge Planning meetings. The Financial Counselor facilitates the Coordination of account follow-up with the case Management team. Other duties as assigned.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Consistently follows facility guidelines and procedures in performance.
- Counsels patients about unpaid bills.
- Works closely with Case Management (U/R) on a daily basis regarding patient status changes, insurance notification, or insurance coverage.
- Creates and maintains detailed notes of activities in the system to reflect all actions performed on a patient's account.
- Assists in registering patients or admitting patients when needed.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- High School Diploma or GED required. Associate Degree preferred; experience may substitute degree requirements.
- Technical, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills relevant to the area in order to effectively communicate with physicians, health team members, patients, and families.
- Ability to prioritize work with minimal supervision to independently carry out the duties of the position.
- Able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Basic computer knowledge, proficient in Excel.
- Other certification requirements as defined by the certification policy.
PREFERRED:
Bi or Multilingual.
