Job Description
We seek an accomplished and proactive Senior Internal Auditor specializing in Banking Compliance to join our Internal Audit team. This role offers a unique opportunity to lead impactful initiatives, shape our internal audit processes, and contribute to maintaining standards of regulatory compliance within the dynamic landscape of the banking industry.
As a Senior Internal Auditor, you will collaborate with our co-sourcing partner, driving excellence in our bank compliance initiatives. Your expertise will be instrumental in conducting internal audits focused on compliance and front-line operations. Beyond audits, you will actively contribute to our Internal Audit Risk Assessment, audit reporting, and education across the company ensuring a comprehensive understanding of potential risks and mitigation strategies.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead Compliance Audit Initiatives:
- Lead the development of the Compliance Audit Plan.
- Design and implement the compliance audit framework from the 3rd line of defense perspective.
- Manage multiple projects to accomplish departmental and company goals and objectives.
- Manage a co-sourcing partner engagement to assist in execution of the internal audit plan around banking compliance.
- Communicate the results of audit projects to management through written reports and oral presentations.
- Conduct Operational Internal Audits:
- Plan and execute internal audits around compliance and front-line operations in accordance with the Audit Plan.
- Perform audit fieldwork to deliver control assurance and improvements in the control environment.
- Identify and define issues, review and analyze evidence, and document processes.
- Risk Management and Compliance Support:
- Lead Internal Audit Risk Assessment process around banking compliance.
- Act as a Subject Matter Expert on regulatory and compliance topics, supporting the internal audit practice.
- Assess and validate that risks and controls are appropriately designed and operating effectively.
- SOX Compliance and Program Management:
- Support the maintenance of a sustainable Sarbanes-Oxley program.
- Facilitate effective communication of audit results via written reports and presentations to functional and process owner management.
- Documentation and Follow-up:
- Prepare clear, concise documentation of work performed.
- Identify mitigating and compensating controls and perform follow-up procedures to monitor implementation of remediation plans.
- External Audits and Education:
- Facilitate and support requests from external auditors and bank examiners.
- Conduct educational sessions on compliance programs and expectations.
Education & Experience
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting or related field and 3+ years of audit or similar experience in banking industry.
- Working knowledge of compliance regulations or willingness to learn and become an expert in (Reg B, DD, Reg E, Reg Z, U etc.), core horizontal compliance requirements (Fair Credit Reporting Act, Reg O, Privacy, etc.), BSA/AML requirements, Fair Lending, and applicable regulatory guidance.
- Experience managing multiple projects while providing performance feedback to accomplish departmental and company goals and objectives.
- Experience in financial industry audits.
- Understanding of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 and control frameworks such as COSO and FDICIA.
- Demonstrated project management skills.
- Strong attention to detail, critical thinking, and written communication skills.
- Certification as a CIA, CPA, CAMS, CFSA, CFE, CRCM or similar, preferred.
- Experience in utilizing data analysis tools to perform audit work is preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Outlook.
