About the Role:
McCloskey by OPIS has an opening for an experienced journalist in our global editorial team. You will be the senior price reporter leading our expanding coverage in the global ferroalloys and bulk ores markets, with a focus on India.
You will report to the Ferroalloys Associate Director and work with our industry-leading journalists and price reporters.
About The Team
McCloskey by OPIS provides integrated offerings of market intelligence, price indexes and forecasting. Energy transition relies on a mineral-intensive process, and it is important to understand the dynamics shaping thermal and metallurgical coal, ferroalloys, iron ore, scrap, steel and base metals markets, globally and in important regions across Australia, Africa, India, China, Europe and the Americas.
Responsibilities
- Report ferroalloys and bulk ore prices weekly, with a focus on India.
- Help launch new ferroalloys and bulk ores price assessments, define price specifications, gather market feedback.
- Create news content on the ferroalloys and bulk ores markets, working with reporters in Africa and Europe.
- Periodic pieces on topical industry issues (e.g. regulatory/policy developments, geopolitical issues, investment, project pipeline, ESG etc.).
- Maintain client and industry relationships – bringing these relationships from prior roles. Share and source market intelligence.
- Engage in business development, assisting OPIS’ account managers in the sales process through maintaining sales pipelines and assisting in the sales process.
- Be a public face of McCloskey and OPIS in the ferroalloys space, through client/stakeholder engagements, industry presentations, media interviews, content marketing.
Required Skills
- 2 to 4 years of experience in the steel or steel raw materials industries and markets.
- Experience covering ferroalloys, bulk ores or related markets as a journalist, analyst or price reporter.
- Excellent inter-personal skills, impact and influence skills.
- Excellent ability to present and to lead public discussions (e.g. moderating panels at conferences)
- Strong quantitative skills advantageous.
- Exemplary written communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Work within a team while sometimes operating alone.
- Manage others while maintaining personal output.
- Bachelor’s degree.
