Summary: The Commodities Analyst position will support the Market Fundamentals group within Energy Transfer. The analyst will model market supply and demand for Natural Gas, NGLs, and Crude data to derive insights and market trends. As a member of the Market Fundamentals Team, the Commodity Analyst will be working on combining fundamental energy market supply and demand data with asset level financial data to derive insights and market trends. The Analyst will have the responsibility for analysis and design of energy commodity models. To be successful in this role, the candidate will need the ability to recognize and extrapolate trends and understand dependencies throughout the supply chain. The Commodity Analyst will exhibit a strong understanding of crude oil, natural gas liquids, and natural gas markets and have aptitude toward tying commodity markets to asset level financial performance. They will be an innate problem solver, approaching data and insights with a relentless curiosity to drive deeper than market assumptions to problem solve for client needs. The ideal candidate will be a confident decision-maker who has the ability to exercise and demonstrate sound judgment on the depth of analysis needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Generate market fundamental research and data analysis for Crude, Natural Gas, NGL, Refined Products, and Power markets domestically and internationally.
- Build and maintain detailed fundamental commodity supply and demand models for domestic and international markets.
- Develop and expand analytics tools and processes while staying on top of market research and insights.
- Model commodity data for specific markets and produce ad hoc analysis based on short-term market developments.
- Evaluate and improve data quality.
- Produce commodity and financial models, insights, and research reports for both cross functional teams on a monthly, quarterly, and ad hoc basis.
- Identify and own new and existing publicly available data sets, working with the Data Engineering Team to make into consumable reports and ensure quality assurance of raw data and models.
- Serve as the primary point of contact and thought leader for all client questions regarding products and other points of interest, leveraging internal team knowledge in order to outline problems, opportunities, and solutions.
- Present insights and models to multiple levels of client stakeholders via email, phone, and in person meetings.
- Develop and evolve process and documentation.
- Project manage new initiatives and product development features.
Requirements:
Education and/or Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily. The requirements for this position are listed below:
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Economics, Engineering, Technology, Programming, or Computer Science.
- 2 - 5 years of experience.
- Experience in building and refining models, forecasts, and working with raw data sets.
- Excellent and strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proven analytical skills and proficient computer applications knowledge in Excel, Databases, and BI tools (Power BI/Tableau), Python/R experience a plus.
- Proficient use with Microsoft Excel (advanced level) and PowerPoint, in addition to proficient with other Microsoft products, i.e. Word, Outlook, etc.
- Must have excellent organization, planning, prioritization and time management skills, and must be deadline oriented.
- Must be an inquisitive, self-motivated, enthusiastic outside-of-the box problem-solver and able to work independently without close supervision while maintaining a high degree of personal accountability.
- Proven analytic skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Interest in energy commodity and financial markets.
- Significant knowledge of the midstream supply chain.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and thrive in a fast-paced team environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience in crude, NGL, or natural gas analysis is strongly preferred.
Required experience is commensurate with the selected job level:
- The Specialist/Analyst level requires a Bachelor’s degree and 2-5 years of relevant job related experience.
- The Senior Specialist/Analyst level requires a Bachelor’s degree and 5-8 years of relevant job related experience.
- The Lead Specialist/Analyst level requires a Bachelor’s degree and 8+ years of relevant job related experience.
Working Conditions:
- Usually, normal office working conditions.
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time due to prolonged periods of sitting or standing.
- Occasional overnight travel may be required.
- Occasional visits to industrial/manufacturing settings, which may include exposure to various materials and chemicals, as well as extreme temperature conditions and loud machinery, and require appropriate personal protective equipment.
