Senior Accountant – Reading, PA
We have an immediate opening for a Senior Accountant at our corporate office.
Hours are 8 am – 5 pm Monday through Friday
The Senior Accountant performs accounting activities within the general ledger group in the finance department. Employee may perform other related duties as required to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Prepare balance sheet account reconciliations and research and resolve reconciling items.
- Ensure that accurate accounting and valuation of inventory is maintained in accordance with company policy and U.S. GAAP (generally accepted accounting principles).
- Support the monthly close process which includes journal entries and variance analysis.
- Calculate and track inventory reserves and analysis.
- Assist in the preparation of monthly and annual financial reporting.
- Contribute to the annual budget process, ad-hoc reporting, analysis and special projects as required.
- Ensure accuracy of financial information in accordance with company policy and U.S. GAAP.
- Assist in the preparation of requests for external audits.
- Assist Accounting Manager with resolving complex accounting transactions as they arise.
- Maintain written policies and procedures for all processes within the scope of the senior accountant role.
- Ability to work independently and effectively communicate with individuals outside of the finance department to accomplish tasks.
- Assist in process improvement and standardization projects by identifying risk areas and recommending improvements.
- Backup for various other cross-trained responsibilities within the finance department.
- Use of ERP system, Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, and Outlook) and other software related to job functions.
Essential Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) in Accounting or Finance; three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
- Analyzes qualitative and quantitative data to define the most relevant and systemic organizational problems and issues; compares, contrasts, and combines seemingly independent information to understand system interdependencies, system-wide trends, issues, and possible cause-effect relationships; makes suggestions for improvements and implements upon approval.
- Requires knowledge and experience with ERP-based accounting systems.
