CalPERS seeks a Financial Accountant II, Supervisor in the Financial Reporting and Accounting Services Division, Travel Unit.
Under the general direction of the Financial Accountant III, the Financial Accountant II (Supervisor) is responsible for supervising and directing the day-to-day operations of the Travel Unit. The incumbent functions as the principal advisor to the Financial Accountant III in support of and administration of the division’s operations and the establishment of fiscal policy and procedures and provide technical expertise in areas of pension, travel, revolving fund, and administrative accounting. Oversees staff completion of the more complex accounting duties related to reconciliations, account analysis and financial reporting of payroll, relocation, travel advances, salary advances, miscellaneous revolving fund/employee recognition, independent medical expenses, travel expense claims and tax reporting. The incumbent must effectively communicate verbally and in writing and perform well under pressure while working in a fast paced and multitasking environment. This includes demonstrating a high degree of independence, initiative, knowledge, and responsibility in successfully performing pension fund accounting job duties. In addition, the incumbent must use independent judgment and discretion while working with staff from all levels of the organization.

The SOQ must be typed, titled “Statement of Qualifications”, and each statement must be numbered and answered listing all relevant experience, education, and training, including places of employment, dates, and duties performed.
The SOQ must not exceed three pages in length and must not have font smaller than 12 point and address the following:
- Describe your experience planning, organizing, managing, and/or directing the work of professional level accounting staff responsible for the following: processing travel expense claims and SCO claim schedule reimbursements; revolving fund payments such as salary, travel, and miscellaneous advances; processing relocation packages; processing payroll; and payment of Concur travel account statements. Please include the number of and classification levels of subordinate staff and be specific about the type of administrative expenses, financial data, reports, and accounting systems used.
- Describe your experience managing special projects and automation implementations. Please identify your role, size, and scope of the project and your accomplishments.
- Describe your knowledge and experience with current State of California travel rules, regulations, codes, laws prescribed in the State Administrative Manual (SAM), Personnel Management Liaison Memo, Memorandum of Understanding with Bargaining Units, Payroll Procedures Manual, and California Code of Regulations.
