About the Role:
We are looking for a Catastrophe Risk Portfolio Manager, who will primarily be responsible for the portfolio risk management and underwriting support of our Hippo Home Insurance Program. This position will work closely with Underwriting, Actuarial, Reinsurance, Enterprise Risk, and our external Reinsurance Broker partners, to develop catastrophe risk analyses and related insights.
What You'll Do:
- Independently complete and review all aspects of periodic portfolio catastrophe modeling including:
- Exposure data preparation and reconciliation
- Perform accumulation, deterministic, and probabilistic modeling of the exposures
- Peer review, interpret, and present modeling results
- Perform standalone and marginal impact analyses to assist with property underwriting
- Support active catastrophe event response activities
- Automate processes and workflows where appropriate to deliver efficiency gains
- Assist in the development of Hippo internal and external catastrophe modeling views of risk
- Assist in the development, communication, and implementation of risk tolerances and limits across Hippo Home Insurance Program business
- Serve as the internal subject matter expert on catastrophe risk, responding directly to questions from Hippo Home Insurance Program stakeholders
- Participate in and assist with reinsurance submissions
- Provide ad hoc catastrophe modeling supporting business decisions within the Actuarial, Underwriting, Insurance Product, and Reinsurance departments
- Support the Director of Risk Analytics in ad hoc Hippo enterprise supporting tasks
- Attend catastrophe modeling conferences to understand recent events and upcoming model changes and communicate model changes and updates to stakeholders
Must Haves:
- Bachelor's Degree
- At least two years of catastrophe modeling experience, preferably RMS RiskLink / Risk Modeler or AIR Touchstone
- Strong MS Office Suite skills, particularly with Excel, and the ability to write Microsoft SQL fluently
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- Organizational skills and the ability to work both independently and in teams
Nice to Haves:
- Property insurance experience
- Understanding of reinsurance structures and concepts
- Actuarial credentials or experience
- Earth science or meteorological credentials or experience
- Enterprise Risk Management software experience such as TigerEye, MetaRisk or ReMetrica
