About This Role
The Senior Manager Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) plays an important technical role within organization’s Enterprise Risk Management function. Leveraging your skills in assessing, analyzing and modeling enterprise risks, you will mature Biogen’s approach to implementing risk management strategies and frameworks. You bring a unique blend of skills in defining standards for evaluating risks including risk quantification and insights visualization. This position involves partnering with ERM and business functions to capture and interpret relevant risk data to inform the company’s risk appetite and enhance decision-making around risk resilience.
The Senior Manager, Enterprise Risk Management leverages internal and external insights to develop analytical methods to support risk management activities. This role will be adept at leveraging data from across the organization, including R&D, Commercialization, Manufacturing and Corporate Functions. By providing data-driven insights and collaborating with various stakeholders, this role contributes to the organization's ability to make informed decisions, protect its assets, and maintain regulatory compliance in a dynamic industry. Additionally, this role is responsible for enterprise risk software and tools, and partners with external vendors, IT and business stakeholders to ensure risk systems meet requirements.
What You'll Do
Risk Assessment, Quantification and Analytics:
- Establishes standardized scoring methodologies for corporate risks.
- Responsible for risk modeling/analytics for the corporate risk register.
- Analyze historical data, external inputs and benchmarking to identify industry trends and inform future risk scenarios.
- Partners with risk leads to align on best practice principles for risk quantification.
- Prepare and maintain executive-level risk reports, dashboards using large datasets and visualization tools.
- Define an approach and educate functions on core principles of enterprise risk management to align with Biogen’s culture.
- Collaborate with business units to identify risk controls and assess control effectiveness.
- Utilize quantitative and qualitative methods to analyze risk factors and model potential scenarios.
- Provide quantitative support to identify mitigation strategies that reduce risk exposure.
- Prepare comprehensive risk reports and dashboards for senior management and the board of directors.
- Monitor and stay current with industry regulations and standards related to risk management.
- Collaborate and engage with internal stakeholders including finance, legal, operations, and compliance, to foster a risk-aware culture and mature risk analysis.
- Provides consultancy support on risk quantification methods and scoring to functional areas/risk teams.
- Collaborate with internal audit, compliance to support risk related audits and assessments.
Business Continuity Planning:
- Develop standard approach to business continuity management in line with Biogen’s business operations, culture and risk appetite.
- Consults with functions and teams to evaluate Biogen’s capability to continue operations at acceptable predefined levels following a disruptive incident.
- Business owner/administrator for business continuity planning IT solution (currently Riskonnect.)
- Supports business continuity plan owners to complete business impact analysis/business continuity planning, including system end-user training.
- Aligns business continuity dependencies including downtime impact, recovery time objectives, and data loss tolerance with IT disaster recovery plans.
- Establishes metrics, builds reports and analyzes business continuity planning data to inform improvement recommendations.
- Primary liaison with IT systems owner to prioritize tool enhancements.
Qualifications
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Statistics, Data Science, or a related field. Master’s degree or relevant certifications (e.g., CFA, FRM) preferred.
- 7-10 years of experience in risk management, data analytics, preferably within the pharmaceutical industry or a highly regulated sector.
- Proven experience in developing and implementing risk management frameworks and policies.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and assess complex risks.
- Knowledge of risk assessment methodologies and tools.
- Proficiency in data analysis software and risk management tools.
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and communicate effectively with stakeholders.
- Understanding of pharmaceutical industry regulations and compliance requirements.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
- Problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.
- Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing business environment.
