Description
Position Summary: The Accountant II will be a key member of the EG America Finance team. This role will be responsible for accounting activities within the designated Finance team. General duties may include (but are not limited to) preparation of journal entries, review journal entries prepared by others, reconcile accounts, analyze account balance fluctuations, and complete monthly closing duties. Other duties as designated by the supervising manager and may include project related work, data gathering and manipulation activities.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and, in some instances, detail review journal entries prepared by others. Ensure each journal entry is accurate and supportable utilizing independent verification.
- Perform Balance Sheet account reconciliations each month, analyzing and explaining the fluctuations of the balance and identify and support the root cause of reconciling items.
- Take initiative to schedule recurring or ad hoc meetings with other finance team members or internal business owners to understand impacts to assigned accounting areas.
- Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the accounting systems required to complete the activities for this role.
- Participate in testing accounting system implementations and upgrades.
- Ensure all accounting processes are documented and participate when directed in cross-training activities.
- Ad hoc projects as assigned.
- Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of accounting concepts/areas such as deferred revenue and Credit Card Accounts Receivable.
- Mastery of reconciliation processes, both systematic and manual, surrounding credit cards, gift cards and other areas.
The above responsibilities are to be carried out in accordance with documented company policies and procedures. All of the above will be accomplished collaboratively but will also provide opportunities for independent decision making.
Working Relationships: This position will work closely with all Finance Teams and other key business segments/cross-functional teams such as Marketing, Fuel, IT and Store Operations.
Minimum Education: Bachelor’s Degree
Preferred Education: Bachelor’s Degree – Accounting
Minimum Experience: 2-4 years of Financial accounting experience
Preferred Experience: Retail industry experience, strong practical knowledge of MS Excel and other Microsoft applications; basic understanding and application of U.S. GAAP or IFRS; experience with Oracle ERP and reporting tools; strong Analytical and problem-solving skills;

Travel: No travel required
Hours & Conditions: Typically Monday-Friday, 8+ hour days in office setting. This position requires reporting to the office three times per week with an option for a hybrid work schedule of two days per week from a home office. The hybrid work flexibility is up to department managers discretion and requires LST approval.
Physical Requirements: Minimal physical effort required; sitting / standing at computer for long periods of time. Ability to maneuver and lift up to 10 lbs.
