The Freight Project Specialist will be responsible for investigating and auditing freight shipments and its invoice payment information against our clients’ contracts, terms, and applicable rates. The goal is to identify billing discrepancies and verify overpayments made by our clients and recovery and reduce overpayments and inaccurate billings to improve profitability.
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Analyze and interpret carrier freight contracts and audit invoice payment information.
- Research and identify invoices that are not in compliance with the contractual pricing and service agreements.
- Investigate and diagnose potential errors and duplicate carrier billing.
- Audit carrier freight bills and interpret tariffs and contracts.
- Communicate with carriers and clients to address issues related to audits.
- Ability to understand and discuss essential freight documentation that supports charges invoices and required for payment.
- Assists in maintaining appropriate staffing levels for the audit; leverage the resources and abilities of the audit team to maximize all recovery opportunities; assists in directing the work and processes of the team; provide consistent and constructive feedback to help increase effectiveness at the audit.
- Makes audit projections for specific projects; meets claim generation targets for each project.
- Participate in pre-data calls, audit planning calls and other meetings as deemed necessary by management.
- Works with audit management to assist in the development of the audit plan(s), project design, and data requirements; coordinate data requirements with IT.
- Provides timely updates of audit status and/or issues to audit management.
- Documents audit process.
- Supports implementation of best practices.
- May maintain audit plan(s), scope parameters and due diligence information for the audit(s).
- May direct the work of at least 2 or more full-time employees.
WORK EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university, preferably in Business, Finance or Accounting; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of five years progressively complex transportation systems experience in a technical setting associated with a transportation/logistics carrier or customer service environment.
- Strong knowledge of shipping modes and applicable rates/pricing including tariffs and discounts.
- A high level of analytical skills to evaluate and process carrier requests and to understand the client’s operational and data processing systems.
- Strong ability to understand and discuss essential freight documentation that supports charges invoices and required for payment.
- Ability to work well in an individual and team environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
- Advanced computer skills in Excel and Access required.
