Job Description
The Groundskeeping Manager is responsible for monitoring contractor performance and operations, regularly reviewing safety guidelines and ensuring they are abided by. Working as a liaison between the contractor and customer to communicate forecasting goals and client expectations. Ensuring year-round maintenance and storm cleanup is completed within the contracted time frame. May also oversee other services such as transportation, pest control, flagpole, interior plant and turf maintenance. This position requires a hands-on approach with both contractor and the customer which requires strong communication, organizational and prioritization skills.
Job Responsibilities
- Liaison between external vendors/contractors and client (GM) for all Grounds Operations.
- Ensure contract terms are met and if necessary, hold them accountable if they are not.
- Work order management: Organizing, prioritizing, and ensuring work is completed in a timely manner according to safety standards and sustainability practices.
- Oversees contractor and develops relationships with clients/campus community in conjunction with facility/property leadership.
- Works with the client to create and implement new policies and procedures to enhance landscape and ground maintenance.
- Provide grounds maintenance support during storms and snow events. Provide clear communication of delays, working locations and prioritize areas of highest concern.
- Funding management: ensure funding is approved for projects requested, communicate the need for additional funding needed and help budget for future customer needs.
- Develops and owns accountability for a culture that creates a safe work environment.
- Ensures compliance with all applicable OSHA, EPA and other local, state and federal regulations and communicates such regulations to grounds staff.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Horticulture/related field or equivalent experience required.
- 3+ years of previous experience in groundskeeping/horticulture.
- 3+ years experience managing grounds crew.
- Non-commercial driver's license required.
- Knowledge of landscape irrigation systems, snow management, turf management and Arboriculture.
- Work involves year-round management of outdoor contractors which requires exposure to outdoor temperatures.
- Must be able to effectively communicate with all levels within the organization as well as external vendors and contractors.
