We are looking for a highly skilled Senior Revenue Accountant to join our team. You will be responsible for supporting the Order to Cash / Revenue & Receivables process and the setup of sales contracts in our financial reporting system, Sage Intacct regarding our K-12 line of business. This role will also support the monthly financial statement close process, in addition to working with the Manager, Revenue, and Receivables Accounting DE, and the Corporate Controller on evaluating monthly results.
The ideal person for this role has strong organizational skills, is extremely detail-oriented, and takes full ownership of the delivery of a consistently superior work product. This person must have clear verbal and written communication skills, be quick-thinking, adaptable to change, and value working together as one team. Working proactively, independently, and reliably in a fast-paced environment, this individual will be preparing and recording journal entries to the balance sheet and income statement, sales contract accounting, billing/revenue schedule management processing, and sponsorship invoicing.
In This Role You Will:
- Integral role in the Company’s compliance with the revenue recognition under U.S. GAAP.
- Driving the month-end close process to completion, including the preparation of receivable-related account reconciliations in partnership with the Manager, Revenue and Receivables Accounting, Senior Manager, Accounting and Financial Reporting, and Corporate Controller.
- Ensure accuracy of K-12 reconciliations around deferred revenue and progress billings and ensure symmetry with accounts receivable & collections.
- Manage monthly and quarterly close processes for K-12 customer accounts (i.e., revenue, cost of revenue, deferred revenue, and accrued A/R).
- Document revenue recognition position on new K-12 customer contracts, in particular around “bundled” contracts and allocating contract value across all performance obligations.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and reliable accounting records regarding change orders, contract modifications, and usage of Professional Development events through review and reconciliation of Salesforce, Skedulo, and Intacct.
- Review contracts to identify accounting issues and monitor compliance with the company's revenue recognition policies.
- Assist sales, legal, and pricing teams with contract negotiations by participating in discussions, reviewing draft contracts, and providing revenue recognition recommendations.
- Assist in the effort to provide guidance/training with groups outside of corporate accounting, including legal, sales, and finance to ensure all sources of revenue are properly reviewed for accounting purposes and processed on a timely basis.
- Monitor industry/regulatory changes with respect to revenue recognition, and lead the development of new processes and policies to accommodate accordingly.
- Support Sales and Operational teams as needed.
- Support the Company’s accounting policies, including research and preparation of accounting policy memos with the support of the Manager, Revenue and Receivables Accounting and Senior Manager, Accounting, and Financial Reporting.
- Work with external auditors to provide support and answer questions.

- Fundamentally strong Microsoft Excel skills.
- Familiarity with accounting software programs such as Sage Intacct, Salesforce, and reconciliation of customer master data preferred.
- Familiarity with Avalara’s Avatax platform, as well as working experience managing sales tax exemptions.
Credentials and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field.
- 5+ years’ experience in revenue recognition accounting can substitute for educational requirements.
- CPA preferred, Big 4 accounting experience a plus.
- Legal right to work in the United States.
This role is designed to be hybrid in Charlotte, NC.
