Position Overview
The Legal Billing Analyst will work as part of the Starr Insurance Companies’ Claims Billing team and under the supervision of the Legal Billing and Data Analytics Manager to provide support for the invoice review, compliance process, billing system administration and reporting for the Claims Department in connection with its processing, tracking and analyzing legal spend on claims legal matters.
Essential Job Functions
- Responsible for the day to day operation of the Legal Tracker billing management system for the Claims Department including training, onboarding new Claims Managers, working with external law firms and vendors and maintaining process and billing documentation.
- Assist with daily billing related responsibilities for the Claims Department including: review and approval of invoices ensuring compliance with Starr Legal Billing Guidelines, timekeeper rate review, resolution of complex billing issues, electronic invoice processing, assignment of accounting allocation codes, overall matter management and responding to various inquiries from internal and external stakeholders.
- Independently manage emails and calls pertaining to Claims legal billing, including management and ownership of centralized email account related specifically to Claims Department legal billing.
- Develop and distribute routine report requests for professionals and perform spend and budget data analysis relating to Claims matters.
- Research and follow up on outstanding payments, debits, credits, checks and duplicate payments.
- Monitor, deliver and maintain system generated reports on a daily basis to ensure proper and accurate reporting to various internal departments.
- Familiarity with claims and insurance defense industry, legal billing and documents (preferred but not required).
- Create, maintain and manipulate large quantities of excel based data in spreadsheet form and other intermediate to advanced Microsoft skills are necessary in this role.

- Two years of related experience.
- Ability to use judgment, tact, and discretion.
- Dedicated approach towards the performance of assigned work with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize accordingly.
- Ability to follow established workflows and guidelines.
- Strong interpersonal and critical thinking skills.
- Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office suite skills, with emphasis on Excel is strongly preferred.
