Primary Purpose:
Entry level position that supports accounting and finance related activities throughout Sempra companies. Rotational opportunities are available in various financial and accounting groups for career development. Performs specific accounting, regulatory, reporting, and financial assignments under the direct guidance of more experienced/senior business analysts or accountants in completing assignments. Complexity of assignments is commensurate with a basic understanding of SAP, utility accounting/regulation, and policies/procedures applicable to functional area. More complex work is assigned as training progresses.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- The Associate Accountant/Business Analyst - R receives direct guidance and training from more experienced business analysts or staff, senior and principal accountants to fulfill their responsibilities. The required duties include, but are not limited to those listed below, which involve problems of basic scope and complexity.
- Performs accounting, regulatory, reporting and financial assignments and analysis.
- Maintains accounting and financial records and processes and/or supports processing of financial transactions.
- Monitors and assures compliance with control policies and procedures, addresses control issues, and identifies and processes needed accounting adjustments. Additionally assists in completing SOX testing as needed.
- Prepares internal and external financial analyses and control reports.
- Responds to inquiries of outside departments, auditors, customers, and employees.
- Provides accounting/financial guidance and/or training to the operating departments.
- May act in a lead capacity and/or provide work direction to clerical staff.
- Performs other duties as assigned (no more than 5% of duties).
Qualifications:
Hybrid Schedule:
- Although the schedule may vary, typically this will allow the employee to work onsite three days per week and remotely on the remaining workdays.
- Must reside in Southern California or be willing to relocate upon hire.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree preferably in accounting.
- Ongoing authorization to work in the US without company sponsorship.
- Requires solid and broad accounting and/or financial knowledge and the ability to apply the knowledge to accurately complete financial or accounting analyses to maintain financial and accounting records and identify and effectively address accounting and control issues.
- Verbal and written communications must be clear, concise and adaptable for both a technical and non-technical audience.
- Strong computer skills with capability to learn SAP or related business / financial systems to maintain accounting and financial records and extract/compile data for preparation of reports and data analysis.
- Ability to analyze a problem, identify issues, and develop alternative recommendations to address/resolve issues.
- Skillful in organizing, planning, controlling, and coordinating in individual activities.
- Must be able to work effectively in a team environment.
- Positively influences others by action or example.
- Effectively interact and partner with others in Accounting and Finance and in operations.
- Must reside in Southern California or be willing to relocate upon hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
- GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel is highly desirable.
- Working knowledge of other Microsoft products such as Access, PowerPoint, etc.
