Covia Energy, a leading provider of proppant to the oil and gas industry with a differentiated footprint of low-cost, logistically advantaged mining and terminal assets serving all major U.S. shale basins, is seeking a Staff Accountant to join our team and be based out of the company’s The Woodlands, TX corporate office. Covia Energy is in the process of separating into a standalone company from Covia Corp., which will focus on industrial silica applications.
The Staff Accountant role will report directly to the Director of Tax and Accounting and will play a crucial part in supporting the accounts payable function as we transition to a standalone company.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monthly Activity Recording - Record and process monthly accounting activities, including journal entries and account reconciliations for various corporate accounts.
- Month-End Closing - Assist in the month-end closing process, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, cash flow management, and financial report preparation.
- Financial Statement Preparation - Help prepare monthly financial statements and relevant information for the monthly reporting package.
- Account Reconciliations - Perform regular reconciliations of balance sheet accounts to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Budgeting and Forecasting - Assist in the preparation of periodic forecasts and the annual budget.
- Technical Accounting Support - Support research and documentation of technical accounting issues.
- Quarterly Reports - Assist in preparing quarterly financial statements and compliance certificates for reporting under the company’s credit agreement.
- Cash Flow Monitoring - Support the monitoring and analysis of cash flow activities to ensure liquidity and financial stability.
- Compliance - Ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
- Internal Controls - Assist in implementing and monitoring internal controls to safeguard assets and improve operational efficiency.
- Financial Analysis - Provide support in analyzing financial data to offer insights for strategic decision-making.
- Team Support - Work closely with the Accounting Manager and other team members to achieve departmental goals.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
- 1 - 3 years of accounting experience, preferably in the oil and gas industry.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
Preferred Qualifications:
- CPA certification or progress towards certification.
- Experience with IFS or similar ERP systems.
- Experience with ERP implementations and integrations.
- Knowledge of international accounting standards and practices.
