Position Overview
The Sales & Use Tax Accountant will be responsible for sales and use tax compliance, reporting, analytics, research, and other various non-compliance related tasks. This position is a key liaison between the tax department and other corporate departments, as well as SRS's field operations. This individual will also be heavily involved in the analysis and implementation of the strategic outsourcing of a segment of the company's sales and use tax returns. The Sales & Use Tax Accountant reports directly to the Indirect Tax Manager.
Job Responsibilities:
- Prepare sales and use tax returns on a timely basis
- Research technical tax issues and clearly document conclusions
- Assist with resolution of sales and use tax notices, including tracking and documenting status
- Register new branches for sales and use tax
- Maintain and update 3rd party software
- Manage flow of data to 3rd party compliance outsourcing vendor
- Report monthly sales tax rate changes to the IT Department for all branches
- Research and document taxability of SRS items/charges/purchases
- Analyze sales tax requirements on all Fixed Assets and SRS expense purchases, accrue use tax where necessary, and prepare the resulting monthly use tax journal entry
- Prepare periodic reports and calculations
- Reconcile the sales and use tax general ledger accounts monthly
- Assist with tax due diligence on acquisitions
- Assist with sales and use tax audit defense, including pulling supporting information, researching issues, etc.
- Prepare monthly management reports
- Review non nexus shipments and communicate issues with branch and Tax Manager
- Maintain and keep Nexus Matrix up to date
- Create month end journal entries
- Support the field and other departments with questions, including being accessible and available during core business hours
- Other duties and special projects to support the Indirect Tax Manager, the tax and accounting departments, and the field, as requested
Requirements:
- General accounting knowledge
- High performer with problem solving skills
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Strong Excel skills with the ability to use formulas, functions and pivot tables
- 2 - 5 years of experience in sales and use tax compliance and research
- Ability to work well with a team
- Ability to work well in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment
- Available for occasional travel
