The Role: Senior Director, Technical Accounting & Policy
This is a hybrid role working a combination of days in office at 55 Water St, NYC, NY and remote.
The Team: Reporting to the VP, Enterprise Controller, you are part of the Enterprise Controllership Leadership team, which also includes SEC Reporting, Internal Reporting and Consolidations, International Accounting and SOX Compliance and Internal Controls. Overall, you are part of the Chief Accounting Officer's Accounting Team, which also includes Business Unit Controllership, Mergers & Acquisitions Accounting and Real Estate. The team is a global team of [300+] globally.
The Impact: This position critically partners with business and operations to implement change and drive strategic growth, while ensuring the Company's financial results are in compliance with US GAAP. This position has significant exposure to senior level stakeholders across the organization and involvement with all aspects of the Controllers organization as highlighted in the Team structure above. This role will be the primary advisor for accounting related matters.
Responsibilities:The Senior Director of Technical Accounting and Policy is a trusted advisor supporting the Controllers organization as well as the Finance teams across the organization to ensure S&P Global complies with generally accepted accounting principles in the United States of America ("US GAAP"), including adoption of new accounting standards as applicable. You will:
- Prepare documentation and analysis reviewed by the VP, Enterprise Controller and become involved in projects, like the application of the US GAAP concepts to hedge accounting, business combinations, investments, equity-based compensation, and revenue recognition to the Company's transactions.
- Ensure the Company properly applies US GAAP to recurring and non-recurring transactions.
- Ensure the Company's accounting policies and procedures consistently comply with US GAAP.
- Evaluate the impact from new accounting standards to the Company's transaction streams.
- Evaluate processes to identify opportunities for efficiency improvements to meet statutory and regulatory reporting requirements.
- Work with legal, operational, global strategy, and merger and acquisition groups to assess the financial and accounting exposures from potential acquisitions and dispositions.
- Support legal and financial reporting personnel with regulatory filings.
- Monitor and respond to the Financial Accounting Standards Board and International Accounting Standards Board exposure drafts in contemplation of their impact on the Company.
- Work with operating segments' Finance teams to apply US GAAP.
- Coordinate with other corporate functions to ensure timely accumulation of data and information needed to complete job responsibilities.
- Review of other team members' work.
- Ensuring internal controls are performed appropriately and timely.
Compensation/Benefits Information: (This section is only applicable to US candidates)
S&P Global states that the anticipated base salary range for this position is $145,350 to $259,160. Final base salary for this role will be based on the individual's geographic location, as well as experience level, skill set, training, licenses and certifications.
In addition to base compensation, this role is eligible for an annual incentive plan.

What We're Looking For:An individual with strong executive presence and the business acumen to deliberate with senior leaders. A Trusted Advisor to the Business while also being a strong collaborator who is not opposed to jumping in, rolling up their sleeves and continuous learning. You consider yourself systems savvy and have worked with Oracle, Alteryx, Tableau and understand the FinTech industry (or wish to).
Basic Required Qualifications:- 8+ years' experience in Public Accounting, including a thorough understanding of accounting standards generally accepted in the United States and a working understanding of International Financial Reporting Standards.
- Proficiency in SEC reporting requirements.
- Experience designing and writing technical accounting policies.
- Ability to exercise independent direction and judgment.
- High degree of problem-solving ability and critical thinking.
- This position will need to demonstrate critical thinking in order to properly analyze transactions and effectively communicate results with the Company's key business managers.
Additional Preferred Qualifications:- Certified Public Accountant or Chartered Accountant.
- Bachelor's Degree in Public Accounting, Accounting, or equivalent.
