NMPP Energy, located in Lincoln, Nebraska is seeking a Resource and Planning Analyst to join our team. Use your skills, experience, and talents to conduct resource planning analysis and energy capacity projects, and evaluate changes to resources and the impact on generation resources.
The Resource and Planning Analyst supports the mission of NMPP Energy by:
- Coordinating resource adequacy efforts by serving as representative on regional working groups, committees, or task forces; attending conferences, teleconferences, and meetings to provide management an overview and feedback on topics discussed; collaborating with internal staff to evaluate impacts.
- Conducting resource planning analysis identifying optimal location, type, and timing of future resources; collaborating with resource portfolio team and a third-party energy market manager to research and evaluate Municipal Energy Agency of Nebraska (MEAN) energy and capacity.
- Leading efforts in research and analysis, communication, and coordination of all resource adequacy activities; conducting review of resource adequacy reports prepared by others and providing support and recommendations to MEAN and its participants as needed.
- Providing resource capability projections by region and overseeing required capability forecasts for MEAN and its participants.
- Providing business case and analytical support of MEAN resources for requests for proposals, power supply, and resource acquisition proposals.
- Assisting in developing MEAN’s Integrated Resource Plan (IRP); manipulating data for required IRP formats; supporting development of IRP plans for communities contracting for this service.
- Evaluating changes in designated network resources and impacts on generation resources; communicating these changes to operations; coordinating to recommend optimal ways to incorporate changes to ensure delivery of power and minimize cost; coordinating with and guiding internal staff through submission of resources changes to various external providers.
- Researching and identifying needs essential to establishing a centralized load and resources database; coordinating with internal staff and external customers to develop and maintain database and data filing requirements, and documenting changes as they occur; extracting data from various MEAN systems to acquire necessary information to develop resource forecasts.
- Monitoring and participating in regional working groups and committees that oversee transmission tariffs and collaborate with others on staff to evaluate impacts to the organization.
Skills & Qualifications You Need
- Bachelor's degree in engineering from four-year college or university and 3-5 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to draw conclusions from complex data sets.
- Demonstrated ability to use and develop spreadsheets that include complex formulas and macros.
- Ability to learn and stay informed of frequent changes to industry regulations.
- Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.

We provide wholesale electricity, wholesale and retail natural gas, and utility services to member municipalities, most of which are small, rural communities. The Municipal Energy Agency of Nebraska (MEAN) is one of four organizations that make up the NMPP Energy Coalition. MEAN is a not-for-profit organization that provides wholesale electricity supply and services to 69 participating communities in four states.
