Description
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Assistant Director of Accounting to join our Faculty Practice Group (FPG) Accounting Department. The AD will play a crucial role in supporting the Controller with general accounting functions, financial statement preparation, budget development, and internal controls. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in financial reporting, budgeting, and audit coordination, with a focus on maintaining the financial integrity of FPG.
The FPG Accounting Department is responsible for maintaining the financial Book of Record for UCLA Physician Support Services, UCLA Medical Group, FPG managed clinics and David Geffen School of Medicine (DGSOM) clinics. The Assistant Director will:
- Oversee the preparation and the production of internal and external financial reports
- Partner with the Controller and Assistant Finance Director(s) in the daily operations of general accounting
- Manage the annual budget process including participating in system design, preparing projections and providing analysis to be included in the annual budget package
- Direct the daily operations of the revenue cycle clinical operations
- Maintain control over accounting transactions to ensure integrity of all financial sub-systems interface for payroll, accounts payable, purchasing, budget and patient revenue
- Manage the internal control structure by ensuring University policies/procedures are implemented and followed
- Stay abreast of accounting regulations and standards, reporting requirements, and changing University policies, which would govern financial reporting and accounting requirements and incorporate changes into interim management reporting as necessary
Salary Range: $92,600 - $202,200
Qualifications
We're seeking a self-motivated, flexible, and adaptable team player with:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field is required
- Certified Public Accountant/MBA status is preferred. Big 4 experienced preferred
- 7+ years of financial analysis experience is required; 5-7 years of healthcare experience preferred
- Working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, a working knowledge of fund accounting and healthcare accounting
- Skill in managing the maintenance of accounting systems and in producing financial reports for medical groups and management service organizations
- Demonstrated working knowledge of computerized general ledger and subsidiary systems with an understanding of the flow of information and the ability to recommend enhancements and modifications as necessary
- Demonstrated ability to utilize and program complex queries utilizing query data base tools and reporting tools
- Demonstrated competence in accounting and business practices to advise department personnel regarding pertinent issues
- Skill in utilizing personal computer spreadsheet and word processing applications to prepare reports and presentations, to analyze financial data and prepare communications to various university personnel
- Skill in analyzing information, practices or systems to identify problems, identify patterns, trends and relationships, formulate logical and objective conclusions, recognize alternatives and their implications, and prepare reports
- Written communication skills to prepare clear and concise correspondence at a level appropriate for the intended audience
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with staff within the accounting department, with other office personnel and with outside departments
- Demonstrated skill in supervising professional personnel including the delegation of responsibility, motivation and development of professional skills and attitudes
- Ability to adjust working hours and, if necessary, work overtime to meet the needs of the Office and reporting deadlines
