Position Overview: As a Controller at AVL you will provide work that directly impacts clients’ and their goals, by managing and reporting on the technical accounting systems to bring efficiency and visibility to their operations. The work you do on your client engagements is the vital foundation to allow your fellow Accountant and CFO team members to successfully lead the growth and expansion of our clients as a selected unit. With the challenges of multiple clients and rapid growth from many angles, our Controllers are continually called upon to provide the expertise and support to manage their responsibilities in an experienced and professional manner.
Who We Are Looking For? AVL is seeking a Controller with a proficient and demonstrated background in working with investor and venture-backed companies with exposure and experience in various industries. Our Controllers serve clients with both timely and proactive operational information in order to help them clearly understand the current state of their business. You will possess an adept ability to translate “the numbers” into actionable information and you ensure the accounting operations are working efficiently and effectively with auditable internal controls.
You will be responsible for:
- Providing the AVL leadership team and/or client executive management team qualitative and quantitative review of current financials on a monthly basis.
- Preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statement packages.
- Maintaining, reviewing, and reporting on short-term cash forecasts, long-term financial pro-forma forecasts, and actual results compared to budget/plan.
- Assisting in preparation of annual budgets.
- Advising on and ensuring compliance with tax, audit, legal, and other financial regulations (e.g. sales/use tax, property tax, employee benefits, payroll taxes, debt covenants, various insurances etc.).
- Overseeing the operational execution and accuracy and controls of invoicing, A/R collections, revenue reconciliations, balance sheet reconciliations, A/P procedures, and similar to ensure compliance with GAAP accounting standards.
- Maintaining a system of internal controls over accounting transactions.
Experience Required:
- A minimum of 10 years of total financial / accounting / business experience with 8 of those years being with accounting systems and accounting policies/procedures and at least 6 years at the Controller level in a progressive accounting environment.
- Demonstrated experience at a high level working in industries such as consumer packaged goods, Tech, SaaS, Services, to name a few.
- BA/BS in Accounting or Business degree with an emphasis in Accounting.
- CPA (active or inactive).
- A master of Excel.
- Outstanding communication and management skills.
- Working knowledge of Quickbooks, Bill.com, and/or other ERP systems.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of IT systems and tools to benefit accounting operations.
- Knowledge and understanding of inventory, Trade / Deductions, EComm Systems, Amazon (Fulfillment by Amazon), Shopify, Stripe.

Compensation: Compensation for this position is based on experience and technical proficiency. The hourly pay rate is between $55.00-$75.00 per hour. This position offers optionality with the number of hours worked to be between 20-35 hours/week. This position is eligible for incentive annual compensation in addition to base pay.
