Underwrites Indirect Loans. Adds value to the organization by contributing to the process which adds sound assets to the Credit Union’s portfolio. Evaluates, reviews, and monitors the credit worthiness of the member applications as submitted through the indirect channel. Negotiates rates and terms on indirect loans with members and dealerships. Reviews, approves, or declines loans within their credit authority while monitoring the risk to the credit union.
Responsibilities:
- Reviews Indirect Consumer loan requests, accepts incoming calls from dealers, members, and/or internal members, and evaluates requests for review of loan decisions.
- Interacts with dealers, members, and internal members to discuss loan decisions and review loan applications and structures/rules and rates.
- Reviews pertinent financial and credit data and evaluates credit quality within delegated authority limits.
- Approves, sets conditions, and denies loans submitted for approval outside standard loan decision matrix and matrix limits.
- Determines appropriate counter-offer and/or pre-approves members for additional loan products.
- Makes every possible effort to approve loans for indirect members within sound lending practices and regulatory requirements.
- Ensures that all exceptions made are fully documented in loan notes to adequately justify any loan decisions made that may fall outside of policy or procedure guidelines.
- Reviews indirect loan requests, accepts incoming calls from indirect vendors and/or dealerships, and evaluates dealer or vendor requests for review of loan decisions.
- Interacts with vendors and dealerships regularly to discuss program guidelines, loan decisions, and review loan applications and structures/rules.
- Interacts with dealer reps regarding approvals and declines. Negotiates Retail Installment Contracts (RIC’s) with dealer representatives and dealers to ensure the contracts come in for funding.
- Supports and participates in continuous improvement activities.
- Represents the Credit Union in a positive and professional manner.
- Maintains member and other sensitive information with confidentiality.
- Treats co-workers and members with respect.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- 1 year indirect or consumer loan operations experience and 1 year underwriting experience.
- Working knowledge of NCUA lending regulations and consumer lending and collections concepts and practices.
- Good understanding of all consumer lending products, documentation, policies and procedures, services, and delivery methods.
- Ability to effectively communicate with members, management, team members, and external third parties.
- Good interpersonal and consulting skills.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze and solve problems relative to member service needs.
- Team-oriented and the ability to work collaboratively with others.
- Must be able to coordinate, manage, and guide multiple priorities simultaneously and effectively through to completion.
- Proficiency in the operations of a PC and Microsoft Office applications.
