We have an exciting opportunity open for a Principal Revenue Accountant with the opportunity to work remote from AR, OK, MO, ME, FL, SC, TN, KS, LA, NJ, NY or TX.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Principal Revenue Accountant position is primarily focused on being the go-to person for the Revenue team within the Accounting Department. This position will support the Revenue team with reviewing/approving journal entries and reconciliations, as well as research and analysis and special projects.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead by example, providing guidance and support to the Revenue team, ensuring compliance with all company and accounting policies.
- Assist with research and compliance of Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles rules and regulations.
- Review/approve journal entries prepared by the Revenue team in accordance with month-end close schedule including deferred fuel, revenue accruals and adjustments, cost of gas accruals, and other entries as needed to accurately reflect regulatory accounts in the general ledger for utility entities.
- Review reconciliations of deferred fuel, revenue adjustments, cost of gas and other accounts monthly.
- Assist with review and analysis of the monthly Revenue Summary and act as backup for review meetings.
- Review 191 reconciliations and assist with regulatory filings pertaining to the 191 balances.
- Assist in the preparation and review of rate cases, annual cost of gas adjustments, and other regulatory commission requests.
- Support the successful completion of the interim and annual financial statement audits.
- Other Ad-hoc requests pertaining to the Revenue team and its support to other departments.
- Become the primary person for systems knowledge. Lead resolution processes for system issues and enhancements.
- Assist with training of new employees and new systems when implemented.
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of 7 years of accounting experience.
- Minimum 3 years in a regulated utility preferred, preferably in either the regulatory department or on the accounting staff.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting required.
- Advanced degree preferred.
- CPA or CPA candidate preferred.

- Analytical Capability – Strong analytical and process skills. Sophisticated understanding of how to prepare and use financial information and metrics to model potential outcomes from regulatory processes.
- Transaction Skills – Ability to negotiate with varied individuals among the staff of the various commissions and other governmental groups that regulate the company.
- Leadership Skills – Ability to articulate clear business outcomes and enroll the organization in the achievement of extraordinary results.
- Communication Skills – Ability to clearly and credibly articulate complex information to a variety of internal and external constituencies. Since this position’s responsibilities include offering testimony in regulatory cases, communication skills required include public communications proficiency.
