Summary
The Tax Staff Accountant is a key member of a group of talented Accounting and Tax professionals. This position supports daily tax operations, including the analysis and review of federal, state, and local compliance on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis. This position also includes supporting the partner compensation daily operations, including capital account maintenance, periodic compensation budget/cash flow analysis, and tracking special partner income items. The Tax Staff Accountant has the opportunity to assist with various firm-wide business initiatives and projects. As a member of a team that is extremely focused on process improvement, this position also has the opportunity to help eliminate inefficiencies and identify solutions to maximize results. This role works collaboratively with professionals outside of the Accounting team as well, including DLA’s partners, Human Resources, Information Technology, Real Estate Operations, and various others.
Location
This position is located in our Baltimore or Chicago office and offers a hybrid work schedule, with the expectation of being in the office once a week.
Responsibilities
- Reviews and analyzes partner compensation and tax compliance items on a monthly and quarterly basis. Provides initial level of commentary to leaders of the Accounting team.
- Reconciles compensation and tax general ledger account balances on a monthly and quarterly basis to ensure completeness and accuracy.
- Assists with year-end tax file preparation, partner final distribution computations, and audit requests, as required.
- Assist with periodic capital contributions, returns, reconciliations, bank loan requests, and other communications associated with partner capital account maintenance. Additionally includes assisting with verification of employment and/or income requests.
- Assists with various tax requirements, including ad hoc research projects, sales and use tax filings, personal property tax filings, business tax filings, and other state compliance filings.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Desired Skills
Highly proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly with Excel. Excellent analytical skills with a thorough knowledge of accounting principles, including cash basis versus accrual basis accounting, partnership versus corporate accounting, and tax issues. Polished written and oral communication skills. Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Good organizational skills and ability to prioritize. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Public accounting experience with knowledge of state and local tax preferred.
Minimum Education
- 4 Year / Bachelor's Degree Accounting, Finance or related field
Certificates
- CPA license or CPA candidate preferred.
Minimum Years of Experience
- 2 years’ prior accounting experience.

Physical Demands
