Summary:
Performs tasks to ensure that patient have financial clearance for medical procedures prior to the date of service, including but not limited to insurance verifications, authorizations for services, and patient estimates. Collects payments for services, arranges payment options, and/or coordinates Financial Eligibility Specialist appointments. Upholds the mission, vision, values, and customer services standards of the MetroHealth System.
Qualifications:
Required:
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business, Healthcare, or other related field, OR 2 years of experience in medical insurance precertification for either a hospital or insurance company.
Meets one of the following:
Currently a Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) through the National Association of Healthcare Access Management (NAHAM).
Currently a Certified Revenue Cycle Representative (CRCR) through the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA).
Obtains either the CHAA or CRCR certification within one year of hire.
Knowledge of Current Procedural Terminology (CPT), International Classification of Diseases-10th Revision (ICD-10) codes, and general medical terminology.
Knowledge of third-party payer information systems and portals.
Knowledge of software programs, including the Microsoft Office Suite (i.e. Word, Excel, etc.).
Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to multi-task, prioritize work, and meet deadlines.
Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.
All qualified applicants must pass the Epic post-training test with a minimum score of 90% within the standard probationary period.
Preferred:
Fluency in writing, speaking, and interpreting both English and Spanish.
Physical Requirements:
May sit, stand, stoop, bend, and ambulate intermittently during the day.
May need to sit or stand for extended periods.
See in the normal visual range with or without correction.
Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
Finger dexterity to operate office equipment required.
May need to lift to twenty-five (25) pounds on occasion.
Ability to communicate in face-to-face, phone, email, and other communications
Ability to see computer monitor and departmental documents.
