What You'll Be Doing
Job Scope: The Senior Capital Project Controls Specialist is responsible for leading capital projects through the project controls process with the project management team to execute project deliverables within schedule, budget and resourcing guidelines.
Primary responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
Planning & Scheduling
- Create and setup project schedules in Primavera P6 starting from a project template and customizing based on each individual project’s needs.
- Create/Maintain a Work Breakdown structure (WBS) for each project by phase that best groups the work deliverables necessary for project success.
- Conduct horizon planning to detail out each phase of the project based on information from the project management team.
- Provide detailed construction schedules to the onsite turnaround planner for incorporation into plant outage schedules.
- Responsible for front end, engineering, procurement and construction planning, scheduling and cost control.
- Develop, implement and maintain effective scheduling reports, cost reports, cash flow and forecasts for multiple, large improvement projects.
- Consult with project team on schedule progress, update schedule and provide regular update reports to Capital Execution Manager.
- Review schedule deadlines to highlight and mitigate project issues before they threaten the success of the project.
Cost Control
- Assist the project management team in forecasting the cost of the project month over month and year over year for inclusion into site budgetary discussions and reporting.
- Track monthly project spending against forecast and budget and report to project management team and Capital Execution Manager.
- Document changes to project cost, forecasts or scope.
- Provide quarterly spend and forecast projections to the corporate finance team for inclusion in regional capital funding tracking and discussions.
- Advise project management team on budget shortfalls to facilitate the request for additional capital funding as needed to complete project objectives.
General Duties
- Attend project meetings as schedule expert and ensure that schedule corresponds with discussions that are held. Voice any concerns regarding project directions that threaten schedule or budget.
- Attend risk review meetings to provide insight as to possible schedule or cost impacts that may be associated with project risk scenarios.
Ideal Background
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, preferably Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical or Civil.
Certification: AACE International or Project Management Institute (PMI) certification is highly preferred.
Experience: This position requires 15 or more years of relevant industrial experience in planning, scheduling, cost control and estimating.
- Working knowledge of Primavera P6, Microsoft Project and SAP.
- Expert in Microsoft Office products, especially Teams, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact with all levels of the organization.
- Must have a high degree of computer literacy / technical aptitude and attention to detail.
- Ability to facilitate and present information in meetings, both virtual and in person.
- Must be able to meet deadlines, work independently, be accountable for work products, be punctual and have a good attendance record.
- Must maintain a professional attitude and be able to work as part of various teams as needed.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time.
