To help Texas Bay Credit Union (TBCU) maintain its position as a leading financial institution, the Senior Accounting Specialist will be responsible for overseeing daily accounting functions, including accounts payable/receivable, bank account reconciliations, general ledger account reconciliations, accrued expenses, and fixed assets. In this role, the specialist will ensure the accurate and timely completion of daily operations while also identifying opportunities and recommending methods to improve financial performance, work processes, and member service. These duties may be performed at any credit union office as assigned.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensure that daily, weekly, and monthly processes are completed in an accurate and timely manner; identify opportunities and recommend methods to improve financial performance, work processes, and member service.
- Responsible for the completion of daily operations and overseeing daily accounting functions including accounts payable/receivable, bank account reconciliations, general ledger accounts reconciliation, accrued expenses, fixed assets, and all other general ledger accounts as needed.
- Assist team members in completion of tasks and assignments to ensure continuity of service.
- Maintain and reconcile all corporate bank accounts.
- Review and remit federal withholding tax payments.
- Process employee expense reimbursement requests.
- Maintain and reconcile fixed assets, including recording fixed asset acquisitions and dispositions in the accounting system, posting monthly depreciation, reconciling the balance in the fixed asset subsidiary ledger to the general ledger, and conducting periodic reviews of the fixed asset schedule to determine dispositions.
- Maintain and reconcile prepaid and deferred expenses, including recording expenses, determining amortization schedules for the expenses, processing monthly amortization, and reconciling the general ledger accounts.
- Review, code, and prepare journal entries for monthly corporate credit card expense reports.
- Assist management with general ledger imports to the accounting system.
- Assist management in reviewing and approving daily journal entries.
- Assist management in opening and following up on OSI cases as needed.
- Assist management in maintaining Federal Home Loan Bank (FHLB) mortgage loans sold.
- Maintain debit card tracking spreadsheet, including reviewing debit card reports and inputting data to the spreadsheet on a monthly basis.
- Assist management in preparing month-end close, including preparing/posting journal entries in the accounting system.
- Prepare/reconcile monthly account reconciliations for specific general ledger accounts, researching outages, and reviewing reconciliations on a monthly basis with management.
- Provide assistance and guidance on employee requests, including phone calls and emails related to accounting questions.
Required Knowledge
- High School diploma required.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
- One to three years of accounting experience, preferably in the financial services industry.
- GL reconciliation experience required.
- Proficient in MS Excel.

- Ability to work independently and as a member of the team, with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrate the ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion.
- Ability and willingness to work within all performance standards of the Credit Union.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. The employee is regularly required to walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, kneel, talk, and hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move 10-15 pounds. This position requires viewing of a computer monitor for extended lengths of time and travel to and from all credit union offices.
