This position will be working within the Accounting & Finance department, reporting to the Controller.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES MAY INCLUDE:
- Supervise and manage the day-to-day accounting activities, including AP, AR, full cycle G/L accounting, and payroll functions, with a focus on the unique aspects of the solar/construction industry.
- Oversee the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of financial statements, while considering industry-specific revenue recognition and cost accounting requirements.
- Develop and implement accounting policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and best practices.
- Establish and maintain cost accounting systems to accurately track costs, revenues, and profitability of solar installation projects.
- Coordinate with Ops teams to ensure accurate and timely billing, cost tracking, and revenue recognition for ongoing projects.
- Manage and review intercompany transactions and reconciliations between different entities within our organization, ensuring accurate recording and elimination of intercompany balances.
- Prepare and review financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, analyzing project profitability and identifying trends and potential risks.
- Perform cost accounting analysis to identify and control project-related expenses, monitor budget adherence, and provide insights for decision-making and project estimation processes.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure accurate and timely recording of revenue and expenses, and facilitate interdepartmental communication to support project success.
- Monitor and analyze financial performance, providing management with regular reports and recommendations for improvement, including KPIs.
- Mentoring and Training: Provide guidance and mentorship to junior to senior accounting staff. Share knowledge and expertise to foster professional growth and development within the team.
- Stay updated with changes in accounting regulations and standards, and ensure compliance with GAAP and other relevant guidelines.
- Assist the Controller in tax filings.
- Look for ways to improve efficiency and recognize unnecessary expenses.
- Continuously identify opportunities for process improvement within the accounting function. Streamline processes, implement automation, and leverage technology to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
- Assist the Controller in FP&A functions including budgeting, forecasting, and long term strategic planning.
- Assist the Controller as needed, and respond to financial information requests by the Leadership team.
- Protect the organization’s value by keeping financial information confidential.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE NEEDED:
To be successful in this position you will need to be a quick learner, self-driven, organized, multi-tasker, and be able to communicate effectively with our team.
REQUIRED:
- Minimum of 6 – 8 years of progressive experience in accounting, with hands-on experience. Experience in FP&A preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of supervisory or team management experience, including the ability to lead and develop a team of accounting professionals.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field. CPA or CMA certification is highly desirable.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail and ability to analyze project financial data.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently, managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Must work well on a team.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and present financial information.
- Strong knowledge of cost accounting is required.
- Solid understanding of financial controls, compliance, and regulatory requirements.
- Expert knowledge of GAAP.
- Payroll experience preferred.
- Experience with multiple subsidiaries/intercompany is required.
SOFTWARE EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- NetSuite knowledge strongly preferred.
