Overview
This is a remote role that may be hired in several markets across the United States.
This Second Line of Defense role is responsible for assessment and oversight of risks taken by the Bank at an advanced level of ability. Oversees First Line of Defense activities through objective risk assessment, effective challenge, monitoring, and reporting of the Bank's Risk Profile, including top and emerging risks. Provides leadership, consultation, and support for risk management techniques, practices, and procedures that protect the Bank from loss or exposure. Facilitates the development of analyses and reports to support the appropriate identification, assessment, monitoring, and reporting of new or existing risks. Assists in the review and enhancement of internal controls. Maintains a strong knowledge of new or emerging risk management techniques and trends through professional networking and industry involvement. Develops collaborative partnerships with internal departments, external auditors, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders to support the company's Risk Management Framework. May provide guidance to less experienced associates in the department.
Data Oversight (DO) – part of Operational Risk Management (ORM) has an exciting opportunity for a Risk Officer II. This role reports to the Data Oversight Director. The Risk Officer II will partner with key stakeholders across the DO team and the front line to provide effective challenge, targeted risk assessments, control testing, issues management and RCSA support. They will support oversight of front-line activities and review and challenge the development, management and maintenance of relevant governance documents spanning standards and procedures. The Risk Officer II will be a pivotal team member in establishing strong governance within the function. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter, able to work independently and capable of supporting leadership and innovation for the risk function.
Responsibilities
- Risk Oversight & Monitoring - Provides objective oversight of risks through effective challenge using defined methodologies and subject matter expertise. Provides valuable input and consultation for risk management while supporting leadership initiatives. Fosters business unit relationships and implements or supports training to promote engagement in risk management programs, including compliance with all risk policies and standards. May assist with presentations, workshops, and other materials as necessary to communicate risk management tactics. May provide guidance to less experienced associates in the department.
- Risk Management Proficiency - Maintains a strong knowledge of risk management developments or changes within the organization, industry, and market. Develops active relationships within professional networks to stay current on emerging issues and regulatory requirements. Communicates risk vision and regulatory requirements to applicable stakeholders, including less experienced associates in the work group.
- Business Support - Provides support for business programs, initiatives, and leaders. Serves as a consultant on risk best practices, processes, and regulatory requirements. Facilitates reporting and interdepartmental collaboration.
- Exam Support - Assists with internal audits through partnership with both internal and external auditors. Works closely with regulatory agencies and assists regulatory exams. Ensures that all auditing or exam preparatory needs are met.
- Data Oversight – Able to proactively assess data risks and controls; able to collaborate with stakeholders to identify and mitigate potential data-related risks that could impact the organizations risk profile.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree and 6 years of experience in Financial Services (preferably large financial institutions), Enterprise Risk Management, Operational Risk Management, Compliance, Audit, Finance, or Accounting OR High School Diploma or GED and 10 years of experience in Financial Services, Enterprise Risk Management, Operational Risk Management, Compliance, Audit, Finance, or Accounting.
Area(s) of Experience: Enterprise Risk Management, Operational Risk Management with a focus on and understanding of the importance of data. Experience working with Governance Risk and Compliance applications, knowledge of risk techniques and practices, knowledge of, and appreciation for, Enterprise Data Management.
Skill(s): Experience working with Governance Risk and Compliance applications, Knowledge of risk techniques and practices, with a focus on data governance and data quality risks. Knowledge of operational and enterprise risk management including identification, assessment, and escalation of risk issues. Knowledge and understanding of data (source/input through consumption) and data quality issues. Ability to track and coordinate large, complex processes, and demonstrate knowledge of regulatory guidance pertaining to enterprise and operational risk as well as risk control frameworks, PC Skills including Microsoft Visio, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Experience designing and delivering management and board reporting in a large company, preferably a large financial institution.
- 1stand/or 2nd line experience in risk management within a large financial institution, preferably within Operational or Enterprise Risk with a focus on data.
- Experience working in Governance, specifically committee management.
- Proven problem solver with ability to provide in-depth analysis of complex problems, manage risk and make quick decisions.
- Independent, adaptable and highly motivated individual able to work in a rapidly evolving environment, where priorities may change quickly.
- Able to assist in the implementation of operational risk frameworks and driving a strong risk management culture, with an understanding of the importance of data.
- Highly developed written and verbal communication ability.
- Must be able to meet tight deadlines for critical deliverables.
If hired in North Carolina or Arizona, the base pay for this position is generally between $105,000.00 and $145,000.00. If hired in California, the base pay for this position is generally between $115,000.00 and $150,000.00. Actual starting base pay will be determined based on skills, experience, location, and other non-discriminatory factors permitted by law. For some roles, total compensation may also include variable incentives, bonuses, benefits, and/or other awards as outlined in the offer of employment.
