The Public Markets and Alternative Investment Partners Valuation Committees (the Valuation Committees) are important governing entities within MSIM that are responsible for carrying out certain functions related to the valuation of equity, fixed income, and derivative securities as well as fund investments. The Committees carry out these functions on behalf of MSIM as a registered investment advisor as well as on behalf of the Boards of Directors / Trustees of the Morgan Stanley Funds, which provide oversight in ensuring the net asset value of each fund is fair to purchasing, redeeming, and existing shareholders. The Valuation Committees have the ultimate delegated authority and responsibility for assessing the fair valuation of securities.
Job Description
Based in New York, MSIM's Valuation Team is seeking a valuation specialist to support the Valuation Committees in solving daily pricing issues on a diverse set of public and private equity and fixed income securities, and writing memoranda and executive summaries related to fair valued securities for Valuation Committee meetings and quarterly Boards of Directors meetings. The position requires the candidate to perform company and industry research, create and maintain financial models and valuation analyses including, but not limited to, discounted cash flow, comparable company, comparable transaction, and tangible net asset valuation approaches on a number of private equity investments. Additionally, the candidate will be required to review valuations provided by third parties and Investment Teams.
Required Skills / Experience
- Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics or related discipline required. Master's degree, CFA, or CPA a plus.
- 4+ years of experience in valuation services, equity research, investment banking, or private equity.
- Excellent writing and presentation skills.
- Strong analytical skills and experience in financial modeling.
- Proficiency in accounting and financial statement analysis.
- Experience using income, market, and asset valuation approaches.
- Experience using CapitalIQ and Bloomberg.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to operate independently.
Wage Transparency Statement
Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $105,000 and $155,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
