Staff Accountant
Location: Sacramento
Department: Accounting
Reports To: Controller
FSLA Status: Non-Exempt, Full Time position
Hourly Wage: $28.00 to $32.00 per hour (Annual Salary Equivalent = $58,240 to $66,560 per year)
Hybrid Work Schedule: Monday and Fridays ~ Work from home; Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursdays ~ Work in Office

Summary
The Staff Accountant is responsible for performing full cycle accounting, budget preparation, audit workpaper preparation and ongoing financial reporting.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare monthly financial statements for all assigned entities: including budget vs. actual income statement, balance sheet, income statement, bank and investment reconciliations, accounts payable and accounts receivable reports, general ledger reports and other schedules as requested.
- Provide support to annual budgeting process.
- Provide support to the annual audit process by preparing workpapers for assigned entities and facilitating timely completion of audit reports.
- Perform daily banking procedures.
- Review and post job-cost payables batches for pre-development projects.
- Accounts payable support as needed including entering invoices and printing checks.
- Prepare monthly recurring and adjusting journal entries.
- Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
Qualifications:
Education/Experience:
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university in business, accounting or a related field; or four years accounting experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Two years experience in financial reporting preferred.
- 1-3 years of accounting experience within the real estate industry; residential/affordable experience preferred; working knowledge of and experience with non-profit accounting, as well as for profit accounting.
- Knowledge and proficiency in Finance/Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Previous experience working in a multi-entity environment is required.
- Recent working knowledge of Yardi, Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, customer service mindset required.
- Ability to work independently and take initiative.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills; able to manage priorities and workflow.
Language Ability:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Math Ability:
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Work Environment / Physical Demands:
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required sit, reach with hands and arms and talk or hear.
- The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk.
- May require lifting of up to 25 pounds.
