Job Purposes:
This role will serve as the liaison between the business units and the IT organization to provide business process solutions to meet departmental and institutional needs. The Business Analyst writes clear and well-structured business requirements/documents related to existing applications and recommends migration path to existing, central resources, away from legacy or one-off system instances. The role creates reports, dashboards, visualizations to understand business performance. Assist with project management for selected projects.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in business administration, computer science, information technology, information systems, finance, economics, accounting or related field.
- Minimum of 4 years relevant experience.
- Knowledge of principles and concepts behind applications analysis/design, project planning, resource estimates, thorough testing and debugging, implementation, and documentation.
- Proficient in the use of a range of data and information technology systems.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to adapt to and manage shifting priorities, demands, and timelines.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience supporting an accredited institution of higher education in a technical role.
- Project management experience.
- Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP).
- Experience with the following environments, languages, and tools: Oracle, SQL, PLSQL, XML/JSON, HTML, data visualization, real-time system integrations, and business intelligence applications such as R, Python, SAS, Argos or equivalent programming languages/applications.
Essential Functions and percent of time:
Process Improvement 45%
- Collect, analyze, and translate business requirements into user stories, workflows, business process logic, process maps, etc. to improve operational efficiencies, quality, and service.
- Ensure solutions meet business needs and requirements.
- Coordinate the assessment of business needs through direct interaction, mapping of current and future business processes, and looking for opportunities to develop and improve the business through effective use of technology.
- Analyze and advise management of workflow issues and data integrity problems and offer recommendations on resolution.
- Understand current business rules of FileMaker solutions and interface with other system administrators to determine the best migration path out of FileMaker. Assist with implementation of change management plans.
Assessment & Evaluation 30%
- Act as liaison between business unit and information technology staff to implement new systems or system upgrades that support the business units.
- Effectively analyze user requirements working as a team or individually.
- Working with senior programmer analyst, manager or individually, develop specifications for the design of enhancements to existing systems, or development of a sub-system. Identify and map related and dependent business processes within and across departments and divisions, including the requirements/policies driving them.
- Create or modify code to implement provided development specifications including developing new reports and potentially complex programs or sub-systems. Perform detailed unit and/or integration testing and implement it into production.
- Define, develop, and implement quality assurance (QA) test cases, end-user validation plans, and other QA assessments.
Data Analysis & Reporting 20%
- Perform analysis of data that aligns to organizational goals and relays business impacts of findings through sound data driven recommendations.
- Ensure data integrity through collaboration with the institution's Data Governance Committee and Data Stewardship groups. Ensure solutions are built and maintained so as to ensure data integrity.
- Collaborate with other teams and perform in-depth analysis of the impact of software that may affect multiple systems or subsystems.
- Effectively analyze business unit requirements to estimate effort level, evaluate new options of similar technology and offer suggestions to improve processes.
- Coordinate relevant reporting and dashboarding; Essential data for accreditation and dashboards for administration in undergraduate and graduate medical education.
- Analyze existing data to ensure accuracy. Troubleshoot root-causes, test and implement changes into production to prevent future incidents.
- Provide additional analysis and development experience in other areas as needed depending on workload and project priorities across the team.
- Supports Institutional Research and Effectiveness in the development of institutional reports and dashboards.

- Other tasks and special projects as assigned.
- Assist divisions and departments with the training of key personnel; develop related training materials in concert with end users.
