The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Director of Finance and Administration, the Senior Financial Analyst focuses on supporting the Finance division’s financial operations. As a key member of the Finance Business Services team, the Senior Financial Analyst partners alongside teams within the Finance Division and across the University to support strategic financial goals. In this role, the Senior Financial Analyst helps to implement financial policies and procedures and recommends appropriate controls and process improvements as needed.
Responsibilities
- Manages monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes for the Finance Division, including variance analysis and forecasting of major areas of revenue and expense.
- Collaborates with departments to develop quarterly forecasts and the annual budget submission, applying financial insights to analyze and present comprehensive divisional budgets. Directly communicates results with explanations to the Director on a monthly and quarterly basis.
- Provides updates to the Director on any and all changes that affect the budgets of assigned Finance division departments, working with other team members to consistently ensure that changes are effectively communicated on a timely basis.
- Initiates, reviews and approves journal entries and ensures the University standards for financial integrity and transactions have been met.
- Reviews and facilitates purchasing activities, including invoices, expense reports, requisitions, and purchase orders, to ensure compliance, transparency, and fiscal responsibility.
- Serves as key liaison to Finance division departments, responding to inquiries and providing assistance as needed.
- As needed and appropriate, acts as a backup to the Director in their absence.
- Performs special projects and other related job duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in accounting or finance.
- Minimum of four years related experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in higher education.
- Experience with financial accounting and/or reporting systems.
Other Requirements
- Demonstrated comprehensive financial reporting responsibility in a large, complex organization.
- Strong data analysis and modeling skills, including forecasting, variance analysis, data metrics, and financial statement analysis.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to prioritize and manage multiple assignments simultaneously.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, including active listening skills.
- The ability to work effectively with a diverse group of University administrators, as well as work independently and collaboratively as a team member.
- Must be a strategic thinker who takes initiative to share new ideas with an open and collaborative style that encourages teamwork and cooperation.
- Must demonstrate the use of tact and discretion and be able to handle confidential information with excellent judgment.
- Must have a passion for excellent customer service and commitment to exceptional quality.
