If you can manage fixed asset maintenance, prepare journal entries, monthly and year-end closings, cash management, bank reconciliations, and general ledger reconciliation, you could be the Accountant we need. You might thrive in this role if you are detail-oriented and an analytical thinker with a talent for working with financial systems. Utility cooperatives are known for hiring long-term employees - the Controller and CFO each have at least a decade of utility accounting experience and are ready to train you!
AVEC is a member-driven generation and distribution utility serving residents in 59 locations throughout rural Alaska with its headquarters in Anchorage, AK. The communities that Alaska Village Electric Cooperative serves receive power via small, isolated grids that utilize diesel generation and renewable resources. We are unlike any other utility in the world.
The Accountant Reports To The CFO And Provides Accounting Support
As Our Accountant You Will:
- Review transactions and batches posted by Accounting Clerk and Specialist
- Maintain fixed asset records
- Support month-end close and account analysis with detailed account analysis, journal entries, and G/L account reconciliations
- Review invoice packets and request for payment (approximately 600 checks per month)
- Review trip expense reports and calculate per diem amounts (approximately 40 trip reports per month)
- Demonstrate active knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) in daily execution of accounting functions and tasks
- Cross-train to provide backup to Accounting Specialist and Controller
Qualifications For The Accountant
- Education: BA/BS required. Specialty/Major: Accounting, Finance or related discipline and 1+ years of experience as an Accountant is required.
- License: Driver's license with an acceptable driving record for insurance at normal rates is required.
Work Environment
Our office in Anchorage is located at 4831 Eagle Street with off-street parking and a view of the mountains. We offer flexibility in start/end time between 7:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. This is full time, in-person work.
