The Support Services Division (SSD) Financial Services section is seeking an Accountant 4 to join our dynamic team of subject matter experts. We are looking for a detail-oriented person who is passionate about leadership excellence, a skilled communicator, and demonstrates the ability to balance performing day-to-day tasks with being available to meet the needs of their team. Mission and Culture
The Support Services Division is a unified organization dedicated to delivering client-focused financial, budget, procurement, human resource, and information technology services to support all DNR staff and public-facing service programs. Providing superior customer service is at the core of everything we do!
Core Responsibilities
The Accountant 4 position supports DNR divisions in meeting their missions by overseeing revenue recognition operations for various funds within DNR. Key responsibilities include:
- Supervising a team of accounting staff.
- Assisting the DNR Finance Officer with preparing Annual Financial Comprehensive Report submissions.
- Management reporting between program divisions.
- Oversight of the Revenue and Billing System (R&B System).
Revenues arriving in the R&B System come from a variety of programs relating to:
- Oil & Gas
- Mining
- Agriculture
- Timber contracts
The funds are distributed to various statewide governmental funds, including the:
- Permanent Fund
- Agriculture Revolving Loan Fund (ARLF)
- Mental Health Trust Fund (MHTF)
- Exxon Valdez Oil Spill (EVOS) Fund
- General Fund (GF)
- Public School Trust Fund (PSTF)

Ideal candidates would have:
- The ability to research, interpret, apply, and explain concurrent laws, rules, and regulations.
- Working knowledge of GASB, GAAP encompassing government or non-profit accounting experience with reconciliation, billing, reporting, fund and appropriation accounting.
- ALDER reporting, formatting, scheduling, or other similar enterprise accounting and reporting systems.
- Experience with IRIS or other enterprise accounting systems, including standalone subsystems for tracking financial data outside those systems.
- Experience transitioning from one enterprise accounting system to another enterprise accounting system.
- Exceptional supervisory and leadership acumen, including strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to make sound judgments and decisions.
Minimum Qualifications
Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the applicant with competencies in:
- Analysis and Assessment: Uses information technology in accessing, collecting, analyzing, maintaining, and disseminating data and information.
- Financial Analysis: Knowledge of the principles, methods, and techniques of financial analysis, forecasting, and modeling to interpret quantitative and qualitative data; includes data modeling, earned value management, and evaluating key financial indicators, trends, and historical data.
- Principles of Accounting: Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, standards, and practices (for example, double-entry accounting, accrual accounting), including the full accounting cycle and the preparation of work sheets, financial statements, ledgers, and journals.
- Reasoning: Identifies rules, principles, or relationships that explain facts, data, or other information; analyzes information and makes correct inferences or draws accurate conclusions.
- Technical Competence: Uses knowledge that is acquired through formal training or extensive on-the-job experience to perform one's job; works with, understands, and evaluates technical information related to the job; advises others on technical issues.
Equivalent to those typically gained by: Any combination of preparatory post-secondary education and/or progressively responsible professional level experience in accounting, budgeting, or financial management.

“Competencies” means a combination of interrelated knowledge, skills, abilities, and behaviors that enable a person to act effectively in a job or situation.
“Typically gained by” means the prevalent, usual method of gaining the competencies expected for entry into the job.
