Communication Consultant, Employee Benefits

This role will play a pivotal role in developing and implementing communication strategies that maximize employee understanding and appreciation of their employer’s benefits portfolio. This role will collaborate closely with multiple stakeholders to ensure that communication materials are accurate, accessible, and tailored to the needs of diverse employee populations.
Responsibilities:
- Develop clear, concise, and engaging content using various communication channels, including long and short-form content—from newsletter communication, microsites, presentations, text messaging campaigns and print materials.
- Provide expert guidance to internal stakeholders and clients on effective communication practices, including best practices for engaging employees and measuring communication effectiveness.
- Execute communication campaigns to coincide with open enrollment periods, benefit changes, and other key events, ensuring timely and relevant messaging.
- Analyze, report and provide observations driving success of multi-channel client communication campaigns.
- Proactively identify opportunities for communications area of expertise to add value for new or existing clients.
- Collaborate with benefit providers and external vendors to integrate their services and messaging into overall communication strategies.
- Ensure all communication materials adhere to regulatory requirements and accurately represent benefit offerings, policies, and procedures.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Coordinate internal, technical, legal, and client reviews. Resolve issues raised during the review process to ensure accuracy and effectiveness.
- Coordinate project management, graphic design direction, and production. Assist with project management on large assignments.
- Actively participate in identifying and implementing evolving tools, processes, workflow management, and client deliverables.
- Strong interpersonal, client relationship, and presentation skills with a collaborative business style.
- Assist in the development of best-in-class template communications ready for client deployment.
- Perform special projects and other duties as requested.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Strong understanding of employee benefits strategies, terminology, policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a keen eye for detail.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work effectively under strict deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate cross-functionally and build strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners.
- Experience working with graphic designers to accurately reflect an established or new brand while communicating with a client’s employee base.
- Ability to travel and meet with clients or client experience teams to initiate client communication strategy concepts, information, materials, as necessary.
- Ability to operate a computer and working knowledge of various software packages Microsoft Suite, InDesign, Project Management tools, etc.
- Knowledge of organizational methods and the ability to manage multiple tasks/duties simultaneously.
- Ability to attend on-site vendor trainings and meetings.
- Ability to understand healthcare legislation, compliance, and keep current on industry trends. Ability to advise clients on trends.
- Ability to be available for work daily and extended hours as necessary.
- Ability and willingness to consistently participate in internal and external educational opportunities to enhance knowledge of current insurance topics or relevant system improvements.
- Ability and willingness to pursue relevant designations and/or continuing education, as appropriate.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull objects.
- Must be knowledgeable of and comply with HMA’s Client Privacy Policy, HIPAA regulations and E&O procedures and policies.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Communication, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field.
- Proven experience (3-5 years) in employee benefits communication or benefits administration with benefits and HR content is required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with communication tools and platforms. Adobe Creative Suite, InDesign or Canva a plus.
