Location: The incumbent must reside in Central or Eastern Washington. This position is home-based with regular in-person attendance and travel within the region.
As an Overdose Education & Naloxone Distribution (OEND) Consultant, you will play a crucial role in supporting the Washington State Department of Health’s efforts to serve communities impacted by the overdose crisis. Your work will directly contribute to saving lives by engaging with community partners, increasing awareness, and improving access to naloxone and overdose prevention resources in Central and Eastern Washington. By forming strong partnerships with various community partners, including syringe service programs, tribal communities, and local health jurisdictions, you will ensure that the people and communities most affected are better equipped to prevent overdose deaths.
Key responsibilities include:
- Partner Engagement: Identify and recruit new partners in Central and Eastern Washington to serve as overdose education and naloxone distribution partners.
- Training and Education: Provide overdose prevention, recognition, and response training in both English and Spanish to communities across the state.
- Community Outreach: Support coalition building and network with local, state, and national partners to enhance overdose prevention and response programs.
- Program Development: Implement initiatives to reduce overdose deaths, particularly in communities of color, and support partners in naloxone distribution.
- Technical Assistance: Oversee program implementation, monitor objectives, and ensure equitable access to naloxone for all customers.
- Data and Partner Analysis: Actively participate in developing, monitoring, and evaluating deliverables for external partners. Support data collection, review data for accuracy and timeliness, and share data with local, regional, and state partners.
CHES and/or MCHES certification is preferred
Experience Required
Option 1: Five (5) years of experience at the local, state, or federal level engaging and mobilizing partners and communities to address public health issues related to substance use, harm reduction, and overdose prevention and response. Option 2: A Bachelor’s degree and three (3) years of experience at the local, state, or federal level engaging and mobilizing partners and communities to address public health issues related to substance use, harm reduction, and overdose prevention and response. Option 3: A Master’s degree in public health, health care administration, public or business administration, or allied field and two (2) years of experience providing services related to substance use, harm reduction, and overdose prevention and response. AND experience in the following: Spanish language fluency (verbal and written), four (4) years of experience using harm reduction principles in support of people who use drugs adversely affected by overdose, viral hepatitis, HIV or sexually transmitted infections, one (1) year of experience utilizing successful interpersonal and public speaking skills to mobilize people who use drugs adversely affected by overdose, viral hepatitis, HIV or sexually transmitted infections, and two (2) years of experience working successfully with local governmental public health jurisdictions or non-profit community organizations.
