Job Responsibilities
- Under broad supervision, assesses clients' needs and designs and implements rehabilitation programs that may include personal and vocational counseling, training, and job placement.
- May serve as a lead worker. May train subordinate staff in proper procedures of day-to-day operations. Assesses the work training (on-the-job) performance of each client and community trainee to identify each client's vocational training needs. Conducts program evaluations and recommends/implements updates to the processes.
- Counsels clients on program participation and progress toward training objectives.
- Develops and implements individual work training programs based on a comprehensive vocational assessment and staff recommendations.
- Develops and maintains potential and actual vocational and readiness opportunities with local and facility contacts. Evaluates/monitors the programs for compliance to requirements of laws, rules, and departmental regulations. Locates and coordinates work training and employment opportunities available for clients in the institution and the community.
- Participates in public relations and community activities related to advocacy and employment.
- Plans, develops, and provides training and staff development programs using knowledge of the effectiveness of the methods. Provides consultation regarding assessments, work preparation, workforce development, and supported employment. Researches grants and other funding alternatives.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in rehabilitation, social work, education, or a related area from an accredited college or university and three (3) years of job-related experience in vocational rehabilitation, human services, or a related field; or one (1) year of experience at the lower level Vocational Consultant 2 (SSP011) or position equivalent.
